Kluay Nam Wa Restaurant, a must-try dish in Trat province that Mr.Hotsia highly recommends

When talking about Trat province, many people probably think of clear seas, Koh Chang, or traveling to Koh Kood. But for me, Mr.Hotsia, the food here is just as outstanding. Especially the restaurant called “Kluay Nam Wa.” I learned about this place from the recommendation of P'Yai Woranit Kayarat, Director of the Trat Office, who said this restaurant has must-try dishes. So I didn’t hesitate and went straight there to taste it myself.

Kluay Nam Wa Restaurant is located not far from the Trat Provincial Transport Office. The restaurant is not fancy or grand but has a simple, cozy atmosphere like eating at a friend's home. Locals know this place well. I visited during the daytime on a weekday and still saw the restaurant packed with customers, which shows the food here is truly special.

The dish that impressed me the most is the “Seafood Hot Pot,” which is the restaurant’s signature dish. The fish varies daily depending on what fresh seafood is available at the market. This dish is served as a set starting at 300 baht, but I can say it’s very worth it. The fish is firm, fresh, and sweet. The dipping sauce is excellent, and the taro boiled in the sauce is a highlight because the oil melts into the taro, making it sticky and adding texture and aroma when sipping the broth. This is what made me want to come back for more.

Besides the seafood hot pot, the “Pork Satay” here is also exceptional. The pork satay is served so you can grill it yourself on a hot pan, filling the air with the aroma of freshly grilled pork. It’s eaten with bread served for toasting until crispy on the edges, surprisingly delicious. The pork satay only needs to be grilled until just cooked and tender, with the fragrance of spices in every bite. The restaurant’s sweet and sour dipping sauce pairs perfectly.

Another recommended dish to try is the “Glass Noodle Salad.” The glass noodles are crunchy and fun to chew, with a spicy Thai-style salad flavor. It’s a great appetizer that I think suits the seaside atmosphere and goes very well with the seafood hot pot.

What I really like is that Kluay Nam Wa Restaurant not only focuses on the taste but also cares about fresh ingredients, using seafood caught daily and serving food in a way that lets you experience authentic Trat flavors. I even had the chance to talk with the owner and P'Yai Woranit Kayarat, who shared stories about tourism in Trat province, revealing that there’s much more to discover here beyond just the sea.

I believe this kind of travel opens opportunities to experience local restaurants like Kluay Nam Wa and talk with real locals, just like I did in Ha Tinh province.Ha Tinh Provincewhere I experienced the culture and local food such as pork knuckle and fresh tea leaves at Ha Tinh market.

Eating local food at Kluay Nam Wa made me think of the warmth of traveling that isn’t limited to visiting famous places but is about feeling sincerity from people through the flavors and stories hidden in each dish.
