Travel Tam Dao Vietnam: A mini Sapa near Hanoi by mr.hotsia

When it comes to vacation spots in Vietnam that I, mr.hotsia, really like and want to recommend Thai people to try, “Tam Dao Peak” is definitely a place that won’t disappoint. Tam Dao Peak is located in Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc Province, about 75 kilometers north of Hanoi. It’s like a small mini Sapa that’s easier to reach and much closer to Hanoi.

The first time I traveled to Tam Dao, I immediately felt its unique charm. White mist lingers all year round, and the weather is cool and comfortable even in summer, making it a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Vietnam’s capital. Tam Dao Peak rises 1,592 meters above sea level. The mountain features three peaks surrounding a central valley, creating an atmosphere like a natural heritage forest full of lush green trees and birdsong. I saw panoramic views stretching as far as the eye could see. The mist gently alternates with sunlight, creating an impressive scene I want everyone to experience firsthand.

Travel and Accommodation in Tam Dao

For Thai travelers wanting to visit Tam Dao, the journey is not as complicated as you might think. I, mr.hotsia, recommend taking a bus from Kim Ma Bus Station in Hanoi to Vinh Yen city, which takes about 1 hour and costs around 30 baht. Then take a taxi up to Tam Dao mountain for about 30 minutes. Taxi drivers in Vinh Yen know the way well, and the price is reasonable. Once you reach the peak, you’ll find many hotels to choose from, starting at about 500 baht per night, some with Wi-Fi service. It’s convenient and comfortable for tourists who want a relaxing stay.

A word of caution: do not take a taxi directly from Hanoi to Tam Dao because the mountain roads are winding and far, and the fare is much higher. Changing vehicles at Vinh Yen saves both money and time. For the return trip, if you don’t want to wait for the bus, try hiring a taxi from vendors on the mountain; the price is similar to the trip up and very convenient.

Atmosphere and Food on Tam Dao Peak

One thing I, mr.hotsia, really like is the atmosphere on Tam Dao Peak. The weather changes quickly, with frequent mist and occasional light rain, which adds charm to exploring nature. I strolled through the quiet town of Tam Dao, seeing locals and Vietnamese tourists fully enjoying their rest. It felt like stepping into another peaceful yet lively world.

The food on Tam Dao Peak focuses on hot dishes to suit the cool weather, such as hot liquor and spicy hot pot. The misty atmosphere makes dining here even more special. I once enjoyed a hot pot amid thick mist — a feeling hard to find in big cities.

Why Should You Visit Tam Dao?

If you have limited time and want to travel near Hanoi, Tam Dao is the best choice for me, mr.hotsia. It’s easy to get to and doesn’t take much time. Plus, you avoid the chaos of big cities like Sapa. This place retains its natural beauty and authentic Vietnamese local atmosphere. Most tourists I saw were Vietnamese, allowing you to experience real local life, not just tourist spots made to attract visitors.

I want to invite Thai people interested in traveling to Vietnam to stop by here. You’ll feel the same as I do that “Tam Dao” is a lovely and warm place like no other in the world. Try visiting, and you’ll surely fall in love with it like I did.
