Travel Prachuap Khiri Khan Province with mr.hotsia: A peaceful town beyond Hua Hin
When talking about Prachuap Khiri Khan, many people first think of “Hua Hin.” But for mr.hotsia, Prachuap Khiri Khan has more to offer than just Hua Hin. The town of Prachuap itself has charm and an enchanting atmosphere just as appealing. The calmness of the town, unlike the bustling Hua Hin, makes me feel truly relaxed and allows me to experience the local way of life up close.
Transportation and Accommodation in Prachuap Town
The last time I traveled to Prachuap, I took a van from Chumphon to the town center, which took just over 3 hours. The van is convenient and affordable, perfect for those who want to travel without rushing. I highly recommend it. Upon arriving in Prachuap town, finding accommodation is easy and reasonably priced. I stayed at Suksan Hotel, located next to the fishery pier, costing only 650 baht per night. The air-conditioned room was cool and clean, and traveling around was very convenient. The fishery pier here is a viewpoint I encourage everyone to visit for a stroll in the evening. The sunset over the sea is beautiful. Whether you want to hike up Khao Chong Krachok or visit the night market, it’s not far at all.
Markets and Local Food: An Unmissable Charm
One of the best things about Prachuap is tasting fresh seafood and local dishes at the morning and night markets in town. I enjoy walking the night market after resting at the hotel, then sitting down for coffee at a small shop opposite the post office. The tea and coffee here are affordable and rich in flavor, reminiscent of the traditional coffee I drank as a child. There are also boat noodle shops and many seafood vendors. Most locals bring fresh squid from the sea in the morning to sell at the town market. Witnessing this way of life makes me feel like part of the community, not just a passing tourist.
Attractions Around Town: More Than Just the Sea
Many may think Prachuap is only about the sea, but actually, there are many interesting places around town. For example, Khao Chong Krachok, where I once hiked up to enjoy a panoramic sea view, seeing the town and Prachuap Bay fully. The trail isn’t too difficult, suitable for nature lovers and those wanting light exercise.
Another place I recommend is Prachuap Bay with its fishery pier stretching into the sea. It’s a beautiful and very romantic sunset viewpoint. In the evening, you can see fishermen bringing their boats ashore, and small seafood restaurants open selling fresh dishes. Eating while enjoying the view is an atmosphere not easily found in big cities.
Local Life and People: A Warmth You Can Feel
I really enjoy experiencing the lifestyle of Prachuap locals. Most people here are kind, friendly, and always willing to help tourists. I once sat chatting with locals at the morning market, listening to stories about fishing, marine fish farming, and family care here. It made me feel that this town still preserves simplicity and naturalness well, unlike big tourist cities full of rush.
Recommendations for Independent Travelers
If you are someone who enjoys independent travel and doesn’t want to join large tours, I recommend backpacking in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Rent a motorcycle or use local vans to travel to various places on your own. This way, you will truly experience the reality of this town.Read More About Preparing for Independent TravelI have written about it. Summary of Experience from mr.hotsia
For me, Prachuap Khiri Khan is a town perfect for those who want to truly relax but still want to feel the sincerity of the community and nature that remains unspoiled. I enjoy strolling at the fishery pier in the evening, drinking coffee at small shops, and walking the night market full of delicious food. Plus, you get to enjoy sea views and Khao Chong Krachok not far from town. For those who think coming to Prachuap means only going to Hua Hin, I encourage you to open your heart and visit the town itself to discover new sides Prachuap has to offer.
