The Beauty of Tai Daeng at Indawgyi Lake, Kachin State, Myanmar

When it comes to the largest and most beautiful lake in Myanmar, the name “Indawgyi Lake” in Kachin State is undoubtedly on the list. For me, mr.hotsia, who enjoys deep travel and experiencing the true local way of life, visiting Indawgyi Lake was a unique experience.

Indawgyi Lake is located in Kachin State, northern Myanmar, near the borders with China and India. This is not just an ordinary lake but the country's second largest freshwater lake. It is home to the Tai Daeng people, also known as the “Red Tai,” an ethnic group with a unique culture that has preserved its traditional way of life firmly.

Traveling to Indawgyi Lake is not easy for general tourists as it requires preparation of documents and routes. But for mr.hotsia, who enjoys independent and backpacking travel,Preparing for Independent Travelit is a challenging and very enjoyable experience. I chose to travel from Mandalay by car, driving through dirt roads and steep mountain routes. The scenery on both sides was full of dense forests and small hill tribe villages nestled along the hillsides.

Upon arriving at Indawgyi Lake, the first thing that impressed me was the tranquility and the pristine natural beauty. The lake water was so clear that I could see fish swimming beneath the surface. The surrounding forest is home to many bird species singing softly in the morning. Besides the natural beauty, the Tai Daeng people warmly welcomed tourists with smiles and friendliness.

I had the opportunity to stay with a Tai Daeng family in a small lakeside village. Traditional wooden houses with thatched roofs lined the shore. They live simply but happily, farming and fishing in the lake. This trip allowed me to learn ancient fishing methods and taste local dishes made from fresh lake ingredients, such as grilled fish with herbs and young tea leaf curry, which had rich flavors different from what I had tasted in big cities.

Besides exploring nature and local lifestyles, visiting Indawgyi Lake also gave me a chance to see the local market held in the Tai Daeng village. This market is a hub for local products including handwoven fabrics, handicrafts, and fresh food sold by villagers. I tried native fruits I had never seen before and enjoyed friendly conversations with the lovely locals.

The best time to visit Indawgyi Lake is during the winter season from November to February. The weather is cool and pleasant, the sky is clear, and the lake water is crystal clear. This period is perfect for boating and taking beautiful nature photos without rushing.

If you fall in love with this beauty and culture, I recommend planning an independent trip. I usually travel backpacking, which allows me to truly experience the real places and people.Preparing for Independent Travelis essential and helps make the journey more enjoyable and smooth. Moreover, this style of travel helps discover new perspectives that general tourists might miss.

For those interested in Tai Daeng history and culture, I suggest studying information about the Tai Daeng tribe and the region’s history to deepen understanding and appreciate the journey more profoundly.

If you want a change of scenery from traveling in Thailand, I have recommended destinations in neighboring countries like Tam Dao in Vietnam, which is not far from Thailand and offers similarly lush green landscapes.Traveling Tam Dao, Vietnamis another interesting option for nature lovers.

Finally, Indawgyi Lake is not just an ordinary tourist spot; it is a gateway to the Tai Daeng culture that few get to experience firsthand. I, mr.hotsia, want everyone to open their hearts and travel to experience the beauty and simplicity of life here. I guarantee you will gain an experience you cannot find anywhere else.
