Pimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima, THAILAND

When talking about ancient towns that still hold charm and the simple lifestyle of Isan people, Pimai is surely one of the placesmr.hotsiawants to recommend everyone to know and experience for themselves. Pimai District is located in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, about 60 kilometers from Korat city center. It is easy and convenient to travel to, yet impressively maintains its peaceful and simple atmosphere.

The first thing that caught my eye upon arriving in Pimai was the Pimai Stone Castle, a great cultural and historical heritage of Thailand. This castle is not just a tourist attraction but a reflection of the era and prosperity of ancient Pimai. Walking around the castle with its beautiful Khmer architecture made me feel the age and power of the past still present in every corner here.

After soaking in the history, I chose to stroll through Pimai's evening market. This market is a charm I really like because besides seeing the unembellished lifestyle of the locals, I also got to taste delicious local dishes such asPimai Stir-fried Noodlesa signature dish that everyone must order when visiting. The noodles are chewy and soft, seasoned richly but not greasy, served with a spicy dipping sauce. It made me realize that eating local food here is not just about taste but also about experiencing the culture and pride of the people of Pimai.

Another unique item I found at the evening market was crispy fried corn rice, and what surprised me most was the red ant salad, locally called "Yam Mae Peng." The female red ants are very large, with a spicy, sour, salty, and balanced flavor. This dish is something I must say that if anyone is not brave enough to try, they would miss out on a great specialty of Pimai.

The atmosphere at the evening market here is full of warmth and friendliness from the locals. I had the chance to chat with vendors and listen to the authentic Isan accent of Pimai, which made me feel like visiting a friend's home. Traveling independently as I like allowed me to fully experience these feelings. If anyone is interested in experiencing this atmosphere, I recommend visiting during the evening market to truly connect with the life of Pimai people.

Regarding accommodation in Pimai, I recommendPimai Paradise Apartmentwhere I stayed myself. It is clean, has Wi-Fi, and is reasonably priced, suitable for travelers who want a relaxed and unhurried trip. Or if anyone prefers to stay in Korat city, that's also fine since the distance from Korat to Pimai is not far, just a little over an hour.

For traveling to Pimai, having a private car is probably the easiest. But if you want to save money, you can take a bus from Bangkok to Korat, then transfer to the air-conditioned public minibus No. 2 to Pimai. The bus departs every 20 minutes, convenient and hassle-free. I chose this method myself because I got to enjoy the roadside scenery and experience the local lifestyle along the way.

If anyone wants to prepare for independent travel like me,my backpacking travel preparation articlethat I wrote will help you plan your trip and pack more easily. Traveling this way requires readiness and flexibility to enjoy the trip fully and smoothly.

Additionally, Pimai is a connecting point to the lifestyle and culture of people in the Isan region and nearby provinces. If anyone is interested in studying the culture of this region, they can link toHa Tinh Provincewhich I have traveled to and written about. You will find that people in this region share many cultural ties and similarities, including interesting local food and dialects.

In summary, my trip to Pimai District was not only about visiting important historical sites but also experiencing the real lifestyle of locals, enjoying delicious food that is hard to find in big cities, and chatting with friendly people with familiar accents and personalities. This made me feel that this kind of travel is the true way to travel, the waymr.hotsialikes and wants everyone to try.
