Tay Thai Way of Life: Travel routes and stories from mr.hotsia
When talking about “Tay Thai,” many people might not be familiar with the name, but for me, mr.hotsia, who has had the chance to deeply explore the lifestyle of this group, I must say it was an impressive and truly eye-opening experience. The Tay Thai way of life is not just about ethnicity but a story of connection with nature, mountains, and culture hidden in every aspect of daily life.
My journey began with researching and choosing routes that are not crowded with tourists because I enjoy tranquility and want to truly experience the local way of life. Visiting the Tay Thai community allowed me to learn that the Tay people live simply but are full of warmth and a deep bond with nature.
Journey and Atmosphere in the Tay Thai Community
I traveled into the area where the Tay Thai people live in northern Thailand. Although the exact province is unspecified, the surroundings are filled with high mountains and morning mist. I stayed at a homestay managed by local villagers, which was a great opportunity to learn about the real way of life directly from the Tay Thai people.
Every morning, I woke up to the sound of birds and mist covering the vast rice fields. Villagers would go out to plant vegetables, raise animals, and prepare local dishes using natural ingredients around them. I tasted grilled sticky rice with fresh vegetables, fresh tea leaves they brewed, and river fish caught from nearby streams. I must say, the food was delicious and very different from what I have eaten in big cities.
Tay Thai Culture and Traditions
One of the most impressive experiences was participating in a local festival organized by the Tay Thai on special occasions. The atmosphere was filled with traditional music, folk games, and colorful traditional costumes. Here, I saw the pride in their cultural roots. The villagers told me that preserving the Tay Thai identity is not just about the past but about passing it continuously to future generations.
Additionally, the Tay language is spoken daily by the villagers. I tried listening and speaking a bit. Although I wasn’t fluent, the villagers were happy to help me understand more. This made me feel that this trip was not just tourism but a valuable cultural exchange.
Local Market and Traditional Food
I didn’t miss visiting the local market where the Tay Thai buy and sell food and daily necessities. The market was full of conversations and smiles from the community. There were fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, and freshly made traditional foods such as grilled sticky rice, pork leg sausage stuffed with herbs, and fresh tea leaves brewed by the Tay Thai. Unique and definitely worth trying.
This market reminded me ofHa Tien Provincewhere I once stayed and experienced a similar simple and warm local lifestyle. Although the Tay Thai have their unique identity, they also have interesting connections with other communities in the region.
