Binh Duong, a province you might not yet know in southern Vietnam
I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Binh Duong province, located in southern Vietnam, but it is the southern region north of Ho Chi Minh City, only about 30 kilometers from the city center. This province may not be well known to general tourists because Binh Duong is still quite peaceful and does not have overwhelming crowds like other cities in Vietnam. But for me, visiting here was a new experience full of traditional local charm.
Binh Duong's capital city is calledThu Dau Motwhich is a small city with hilly terrain and banana groves scattered among communities. Most locals here still live simply, raising chickens and growing kitchen gardens. Although it is not as bustling as Ho Chi Minh City, it has warmth and friendliness that is hard to find in big cities.
Arriving at Thu Dau Mot
I chose to travel by bus from Ho Chi Minh City's Northern Bus Station toThu Dau Mot Bus Stationwhich is located next to the Co.op Mart in the city center. This station is about 3 kilometers from downtown. Although there are not many buses coming and going, the schedule here is organized and convenient for travelers like me. Buses heading to the Central Highlands and nearby provinces such as Binh Phuoc also depart from here.
After getting off the bus, I chose to walk into this small town to personally experience the local atmosphere. For most city travel, I used motorbike taxis, which are cheap and very convenient, especially when going to the accommodation I chose in the banana groves around the city. The lodging here is affordable and gives a truly close-to-nature feeling.
Traditional Life and Handicrafts of Binh Duong
Binh Duong is a province famous for traditional craftsmanship, especially wood carving, glazed pottery, ceramics, and intricate plaster sculptures. Villagers around the province continue to preserve these arts. These handicrafts are not only local market products but also contribute to exports to France and several countries in the region, as well as being showcased at international trade fairs.
I had the chance to closely observe the handicrafts here, seeing skilled artisans carving wood by hand and carefully firing pottery. Each piece tells a story and carries the spirit of the local people clearly. It is an experience I believe cultural travelers should not miss.
Taste Local Flavors with mr.hotsia
Besides lifestyle and handicrafts, Binh Duong also has interesting local dishes. I tried various menus at small restaurants in Thu Dau Mot city, including Vietnamese-style chicken biryani with fragrant spiced rice, and grilled button squid with a mild flavor and fresh, springy texture.Vietnamese Grilled Button Squid Videowhich I recorded to help ease the craving for the food flavors there very well.
Additionally, there is Nem Fang, another local dish I tried at a nearby fresh market, experiencing a perfectly balanced sweet and sour taste with fragrant herbs.Watch Vietnamese Nem Fang Videowhich fully conveys the delicious atmosphere.
A Small Town Full of Life and Peace
Thu Dau Mot is not a city with bright lights or many entertainment venues but is suitable for those who want to escape the hustle and enjoy community and nature atmosphere. I stayed here one night in budget accommodation located on hills and banana groves, surrounded by locals raising chickens and gardening. The weather was cool and very peaceful.
The city has a Co.op Mart shopping center, which is a local gathering point, and is also close to the bus station I used to travel in and out of Binh Duong province. For travelers interested in staying overnight to truly experience the local Vietnamese lifestyle here, I recommend trying accommodation in this city.
