Hotel recommendations in Kon Tum, Vietnam by mr.hotsia
Kon Tum is a small city in northern Vietnam with simple charm and a rare tranquility not found in big cities. The first time I, mr.hotsia, arrived in Kon Tum on December 20, 2010, I chose to stay atThanh Vuong Hotelwhich was very affordable at about 300 baht per night. The room was reasonably clean, suitable for those who want budget accommodation and to fully absorb the atmosphere of this city.
But when I returned again in November 2013, I changed to stay atHoang Van Hotelwhich was a choice I liked much more. This hotel is located next to Kon Tum’s evening market. You can easily walk to the riverbank or visit the old wooden church over 100 years old. The rooms here are double rooms with two beds, priced around 600 baht per night. It’s very worth it for the cleanliness, complete amenities, and fairly fast internet. Although the staff here don’t speak much English, it’s not a barrier. Just pointing, writing, or showing money is enough to check in comfortably. I believe traveling in Vietnam doesn’t require fluency in Vietnamese, just an open heart and genuine intention.
Why choose to stay near the evening market in Kon Tum?
For me, staying near the evening market in Kon Tum is like an opportunity to truly experience local life. The market here isn’t as large as in tourist cities, but it’s full of lively and charming simplicity. Just a few steps from the hotel, you’ll find a variety of local foods not to be missed. Take a look atFood in Kon Tumthat I have written about. I guarantee you’ll want to try everything.
Additionally, this area offers convenient access to important sites such as the riverbank and the old wooden church of Kon Tum, which charm and tell the city’s history well. I have enjoyed leisurely evening walks here and felt that Kon Tum is unlike busy big tourist cities.
Accommodation prices in Kon Tum compared to other cities in Vietnam
Speaking of accommodation prices in Kon Tum, I think it’s another city where prices are still not as high as major tourist cities in Vietnam like Hoi An or Da Nang. Single rooms cost about 300-400 baht, while double rooms range from 400-650 baht. These are prices I found and stayed at myself—budget-friendly but good quality, including both new and well-maintained older hotels.
For those who want good, clean, new, and affordable accommodation, I recommendHoang Van Hotelas a top choice to consider. Besides being affordable, it’s located in an area suitable for tourists wanting to experience local life.
Transportation and convenience of staying
Getting to Kon Tum is not difficult. I once took a bus from Pakse, Laos, which took about 4-5 hours. Travel is very convenient with a modern interprovincial bus station and many van services on various routes.Read details about travel from the interprovincial bus station in Kon Tumhere
The main bus station in Kon Tum is about 4 kilometers from the market area. If you don’t want to walk, you can take a motorbike taxi or call a taxi through your hotel. I regularly use Minh Linh taxi service. The cars are clean, prices standard, and importantly, I have never been cheated.
Atmosphere and feelings when staying in Kon Tum
For me, Kon Tum is not just a small city on the map but a city full of warmth and friendliness from its people. I felt a peace that is hard to find in other tourist cities. Staying at a convenient hotel near the market allowed me to truly experience the culture and lifestyle of the locals.
Evening walks by the river, visiting the old wooden church, or stopping by the evening market to buy food are activities I really enjoy and recommend everyone to try. There are also many Vietnamese dishes to taste. Take a look atVietnamese food in Kon Tumthat I have recorded. I guarantee you will feel like you are traveling on your own.
