Lạng Sơn Vietnam BBQ: A must-try Lang Son roast duck experience

I am mr.hotsia, who traveled to experience the charm of Lạng Sơn province, Vietnam. A small province that many might overlook, but for me, Lang Son is a destination full of flavors and truly interesting lifestyles. Especially the food here, which I highly recommend everyone to try — the “Lang Son roast duck” or Lạng Sơn Vietnam BBQ, which many say is the city’s signature dish.

I started the trip by staying atHoang Son Hai HotelAn 8-story hotel where I got a beautiful room with a wide view of Lang Son city. This hotel is located in the city center, within walking distance from the market and local restaurants I planned to try that night. After unpacking, I decided to explore the streets at night immediately.

The uniqueness of Lang Son roast duck

When talking about Vietnamese roast duck, many might think of MK roast duck from home, but Lang Son roast duck has more distinctive features, especially the stuffing with Chinese bay leaf, known locally as “Mắc mật.” This leaf is grown in southern China and northern Vietnam, including Nan province in Thailand. Its benefits are not only for flavor but also help with dandruff!

Eating roast duck here, mr.hotsia learned that the deliciousness lies in eating it while it’s still hot and fresh. I followed the fragrant aroma to a street-side shop where smoke was rising, and found that the roast duck here has firm meat, crispy skin, not too greasy, with a well-balanced flavor that doesn’t need much extra seasoning. I tried it with sticky rice and fresh vegetables, which enhanced the flavor many times over.

Other tempting dishes in Lang Son

It’s not just the roast duck that impresses; this city also has delicious dishes I discovered during my travels, such asBún Cá Noodle SoupThin rice noodles with fried fish and water hyacinth, featuring a clear broth fragrant with fish and fresh vegetables. There’s also a Vietnamese fried rice restaurant near my hotel with an extraordinary taste.

A dish I strongly recommend isRaw Egg Soupwhich I just discovered at this fried rice place. They separate the egg whites, leaving only fresh egg yolks floating in a clear, sweet, and well-balanced broth. The yolks have no fishy smell at all. It’s a unique and amazing dish for me.

Atmosphere and lifestyle in Lang Son

I enjoyed walking around the local market filled with kind people and cheerful vendors. The aroma of food blending herbs, spices, and smoke from grills made every step fragrant and sweet in the air.

For those interested in seeing the city from a high viewpoint, don’t missLạng Sơn birds eye viewwhich I have written about. And if you like the nighttime atmosphere, this city is lively and vibrant like anywhere else.Lạng Sơn nightlifeIt’s another interesting experience.
