Lang Son (Lạng Sơn): A vibrant border city in Vietnam with lively nightlife
When talking about Lang Son Province (Lạng Sơn), many might imagine a quiet border town, but for me, mr.hotsia, who has traveled here personally, I can say the reality is completely different. Especially at night, this place is full of life and an exciting atmosphere, truly reflecting the lifestyle of the people of Lang Son.
Nighttime Atmosphere in Lang Son
After arriving in Lang Son city, I chose to stay atHoang Son Hai HotelAn 8-story hotel located in the city center. From the upper floors, I had a wide view of the city. At night, the lights from buildings, houses, and main roads shine brightly with colors. Locals come out to shop at markets and street food stalls. The atmosphere is warm and friendly.
If you enjoy nighttime strolls, there is a walking street and street food vendors open late, selling everything from snacks to full meals. I found a shop selling Lang Son roasted duck, a famous local specialty. Freshly roasted and fragrant, tasting it hot was truly amazing.
Dinner Not to Miss in Lang Son
I want to share a dinner experience that impressed me greatly: “Lang Son Roasted Duck.” This city is known for its unique style of roasted duck. The duck is roasted until the skin is crispy but the meat remains tender. The duck’s cavity is stuffed with leaves of the Chinese bayberry, known locally as “Mắc mật,” which I discovered grows in several areas including southern China, northern Vietnam, and Nan Province in Thailand.
The roasted duck here is not greasy and has a distinct flavor different from other roasted ducks I've tried, such as MK roasted duck in Thailand. Paired with fried rice sold near the Hoang Son Hai Hotel where I stayed, it made the dinner perfect. This shop offers delicious Vietnamese-style fried rice and fried noodles with rich, balanced flavors. I also tried a very unique raw egg soup, where only the egg yolk floats in a fragrant, sweet broth without any fishy smell.Read more about the raw egg souphere
Lifestyle and Morning Market in Lang Son
For those who love experiencing local life, the morning market in Lang Son,Chợ Đông Kinhis a must-visit spot. I walked around to see fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, and a variety of local foods. There’s “Bún Cá,” fried fish noodle soup with water hyacinth, a local favorite of mine. The soft white noodles contrast with crispy fried fish and a flavorful broth. Especially at this morning market, there is a borderland vibe blending Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai cultures perfectly.
Accommodation and Travel Tips in Lang Son
If you are planning to visit Lang Son, I recommend staying at a tall hotel likeHoang Son Hai Hotelbecause besides comfort, the view from the upper floors offers a full panorama of the city. In the morning, you can walk to the nearby morning market and there’s also a delicious fried rice shop in the same alley.
In the morning, I suggest taking a walk aroundLang Son Lakewhich is a local relaxation spot. If you like high-angle views, try theLạng Sơn birds eye viewwhich provides a clear view of the city and surrounding landscapes.
