Silver Waterfall Sapa Vietnam: A Stream of Memories by mr.hotsia
When talking about Sapa, Lào Cai Province, Vietnam, many people probably think of the lush green terraced rice fields, hill tribe lifestyles, and small villages hidden among the valleys. But for me, mr.hotsia, Silver Waterfall is another destination I highly recommend experiencing in person.
Silver Waterfall is not located in the heart of Sapa town but about 7 kilometers away. The most convenient and enjoyable way to get there is by renting a motorbike in town, riding along winding paved roads on the mountainside, passing hill tribe villages that still maintain traditional ways of life, and terraced rice fields stretching as far as the eye can see. I, mr.hotsia, have ridden a motorbike here many times. Once, my friend Khun Chanchai fell into a pothole near a restaurant with a salmon fish pond on the left side before reaching the waterfall. Although the roads have improved a lot, I advise those unfamiliar with the route or inexperienced with motorbikes to be very careful.
Upon arriving at Silver Waterfall, a small entrance fee is charged to maintain cleanliness and safety. This waterfall is quite tall, with clear water flowing beautifully over rock layers. But if you ask me, mr.hotsia, whether this is the most beautiful waterfall, I would say its beauty is not as spectacular as some other waterfalls around the world, as many might expect.
What I like most about visiting Silver Waterfall is the "view from the waterfall"—looking out to the wide horizon of the opposite valley covered with light mist and green fields in the right season. This spot is my favorite angle that makes me feel like time stops and I am truly one with nature.
There was a time I confused Silver Waterfall with Tien Sa Waterfall located in Cat Cat Village. These two waterfalls are not far from each other, but their quality and atmosphere are clearly different. Tien Sa Waterfall is smaller and more shaded, while Silver Waterfall is taller and more open. I apologize for the previous incorrect information I gave. Sincerely, mr.hotsia.
For those visiting Sapa who enjoy fresh seafood, I recommend stopping by a small restaurant not far from Silver Waterfall. On the left side before reaching the waterfall, you will see a fresh salmon fish pond. They offer fresh salmon dishes that are unique and worth trying.Eating Raw Salmon in SapaIt’s a different experience from typical Vietnamese food and very interesting.
Connecting Travel and Lifestyle in Sapa
Traveling to Sapa is not difficult if you take the train from Yen Bai city, Yen Bai Province, which is south of Lào Cai Province. I, mr.hotsia, have traveled this way, riding a scenic train slowly passing through forests and hill tribe villages until reaching Lào Cai train station. Then take a van or bus to Sapa. The fares are quite cheap with many trips available daily. Read more details atTrain from Yen Bai to Sapa
Upon arriving in Sapa, you will encounter diverse hill tribe cultures, including the Black Thai, Hmong, and other tribes that still preserve their traditional lifestyles impressively. Visiting Bac Ha Market, not far from Sapa, is another spot I, mr.hotsia, recommend. This market is full of hill tribe colors where locals exchange goods and socialize every Sunday morning.Bac Ha MarketIt’s a genuine local experience hard to find elsewhere.
Recommended Eating in Sapa and Nearby Areas
Food in Sapa is another important topic for me because local dishes here are unique and have flavors unlike anywhere else. Especially the cheap food zone under the morning market in Sapa town, which gathers tasty local dishes at affordable prices. I, mr.hotsia, recommend trying stir-fried tofu or ordering simple dishes like the hill tribe locals do when they visit this market. Besides filling your stomach, you get to experience the authentic atmosphere of the locals.Cheap Food Zone in SapaA must-visit spot for budget travelers.
If you like traditional Vietnamese food, don’t forget to try signature dishes like Nem Phang or Grilled Button Squid, commonly found in restaurants around Sapa. Watch the eating show clips I have compiled inVietnamese Nem PhangandGrilled Vietnamese Button Squidto whet your appetite before traveling here yourself.
Summary of Experiences and Recommendations from mr.hotsia
Silver Waterfall may not be the most spectacular waterfall in Vietnam, but if you travel here yourself, ride a motorbike enjoying the views along the way, and try fresh salmon from the fish pond beside the road before climbing up to the waterfall’s peak, you will understand that Sapa’s beauty is not only in the waterfall images but in the journey and slow immersion in the surrounding atmosphere.
For traveling to Sapa, I, mr.hotsia, recommend the route from Yen Bai or Dien Bien Phu, which allows you to see more diverse landscapes and lifestyles. Additional travel details and place recommendations can be read atTraveling from Dien Bien Phu to SapaandSapa Travel Information
Finally, I suggest the best time to visit Sapa is during summer when the temperature is not too cold and the terraced rice fields are lush green. You will see the true beauty of nature. Don’t forget to prepare your body for motorbike riding on roads that may have potholes or steep slopes for everyone’s safety.
Thank you for following my stories, I’m mr.hotsia, and see you again on the next journey.
