Nam Dinh Morning Market, Vietnam: A unique morning life experience with mr.hotsia

For those who have been to Vietnam and think all morning markets are the same, I, mr.hotsia, want to tell you about the morning market I found in Nam Dinh province. It is different and has its own charm that I had to keep in my heart. For those who have been there,Nam Dinh Provinceyou will know that this place does not have many foreign tourists. The city looks peaceful and simple, but the morning market in the city center is a small spot that made me feel like I was truly experiencing the real life of Vietnamese people.

The Nam Dinh morning market is located behind the Lakeside Hotel, where I stayed in the city center. It takes less than 5 minutes to walk from the hotel to the market. The travel is very convenient without wasting time on long rides. This market is covered, making it suitable for shopping in the strong morning sun. I spent several hours exploring the market and filming the atmosphere for you to see.

Locals and a market atmosphere full of stories

What I clearly noticed is that this morning market mostly gathers elderly people aged 40 to 70 and above. Young men and women are hardly seen sitting drinking hot tea or shopping here. I also tried sitting and sipping hot tea at a tea shop in the market. Interestingly, there are no coffee shops like in big cities. Their tea is strong and warm, making you feel like chatting with old friends. Locals sit in groups chatting happily, while some sit quietly, seemingly meditating.

The market atmosphere is simple and warm, unlike morning markets I have visited in many big cities. Here, you can still see vendors riding bicycles to sell goods charmingly. The nearby Flower Street Market is another place I was impressed with because many people ride bicycles to sell goods bustlingly, lively, and very friendly.

Morning Market in the Big C Era: A lifestyle that remains traditional

Nam Dinh city itself has a Big C like many provinces in Vietnam, which often causes traditional morning markets to lose some importance. But here, the morning market remains a strong gathering place for locals, especially the elderly who still uphold traditional ways of life completely. I saw villagers sitting drinking tea, chatting, and exchanging news happily. This is a lifestyle rarely seen in big cities.

For those who want to experience this lifestyle, I recommend coming early in the morning. The market is lively and you can see a variety of fresh produce, whether fresh vegetables, fruits, or local foods sold actively.

Differences in eating and experiencing food at Nam Dinh morning market

Although I did not see coffee shops, the tea shops in the market became my favorite spots because I saw the true life of locals. I remember an elderly lady brewing hot tea and smiling warmly at me. That is the kindness of the people here that mr.hotsia will never forget.

Besides tea, the market also offers many traditional Vietnamese dishes to try. If anyone is interested in recommended Vietnamese dishes in Nam Dinh, don’t forget to try Vietnamese grilled pork, known as “Nam bo Nuong,” which I have tried and reviewed inVietnamese Grilled Pork ArticleDelicious and definitely an experience not to be missed.

Connecting to nearby cities and places

After finishing the morning market walk, I recommend visitingQuat Lan Beachwhich is not far from Nam Dinh city. There, I experienced a calm sea and fresh seafood, as well as relaxing at a resort offering Vietnamese-style massages that impressed me greatly. You can read my full review about Quat Lan Beach and accommodations in my article.

For accommodation in Nam Dinh city, I chose to stay at Lakeside Hotel, which has a great location because it’s an easy walk to the morning market and close to a lake where locals like to exercise in the morning. Personal experiences and advice from mr.hotsia

I still remember when I rode a cyclo around the city with a kind driver. He took me on a roundabout route until we finally ended up at the morning market behind the hotel where I stayed. This is the fun of traveling without a fixed plan, seeing the city and locals clearly and unhurriedly.

If you want to experience Vietnam deeply, not just taking photos at famous places, Nam Dinh morning market is a great choice because here you will see real lifestyles, local food, and the warmth of villagers without deception or exaggeration.

For those interested in seeing the morning market atmosphere, I have a video of the tea shop and market to share. You can watch it on my YouTube channel. I guarantee you will feel like walking the market with me.

Finally, if you plan to travel to southern Vietnam from Hanoi, don’t forget to stop by Nam Dinh and try this morning market. I, mr.hotsia, guarantee you will have a different and impressive travel experience.
