Vietnamese BBQ in Nam Dinh: A Unique Real Eating Experience
I, mr.hotsia, recently had the opportunity to travel to Nam Dinh province, south of Hanoi, Vietnam. This is a quiet city with few tourists, but what impressed me the most was tasting Vietnamese-style BBQ, known locally as “Nam bo Nuong,” which is truly a unique eating experience.
Vietnamese BBQ is clearly different from Thai BBQ because they use a hot pan with butter to add aroma and enhance flavor. Grilling thin slices of meat on that pan produces a rich, fragrant scent that’s hard to resist. Fresh vegetables are then added to mix with the meat, creating a balanced, sweet, creamy, and refreshing taste. It’s similar to Thai BBQ but with a delicate touch and a unique Vietnamese aroma.
"Sau Nuong Quan" Restaurant with a Must-Try Flavor
The place I ate at is called "Sau Nuong Quan." I'm not sure if this is the restaurant’s name or a dish, but the flavor here is definitely outstanding. I walked into a simple restaurant with a warm atmosphere, like eating at a friend’s home. Grilling the BBQ with butter made the meat tender and filled the whole place with a special fragrant aroma. If you get a chance to visit Nam Dinh and see a sign like this, you must stop by to taste it. It was so delicious it reminded me of Chinese BBQ I had there, except in China they offer free beer and a livelier atmosphere.
Nam Dinh: A Quiet City Full of Local Charm
Nam Dinh is about 90 kilometers from Hanoi and close to Phu Ly and Thai Binh provinces. I stayed atLakeside Hotelin the city center, which is a hard-to-find and not very cheap accommodation because this city is not much of a tourist destination. Mostly business people or locals stay here.
The city has a central lake where locals like to exercise and run along the lakeside. The atmosphere is peaceful and very natural. The morning market here also has its own charm. I walked toNam Dinh Morning Marketnear the hotel, where I saw elderly people chatting, drinking hot tea, and selling traditional goods. The market doesn’t attract many young people; locals here seem to prefer nature and tranquility.
From BBQ to Quat Lan Beach: A Fascinating Coastal Lifestyle
After finishing the BBQ, I still had time to visitQuat Lan Beachwhich is a beach popular among Vietnamese for fresh seafood. It’s not crowded with foreign tourists yet but full of seafood restaurants and charming Vietnamese girls calling customers. I was very impressed with the seaside atmosphere here, even though the water was murky and no one was swimming.
I stayed at Bac Ha Resort, which is affordable at about 600 baht per night. They offer sauna and Vietnamese-style massage services that are very relaxing after a full day of exploring Nam Dinh and enjoying delicious BBQ.
Conclusion: Vietnamese BBQ is a Must-Try Experience
For anyone who loves BBQ and wants to try something new, Vietnamese BBQ in Nam Dinh is something I strongly recommend. It’s not just about the taste but also an eating experience that blends local culture. From the hot pan with fragrant butter, the tender grilled meat aroma, to the fresh vegetables adding freshness, every bite is filled with happiness and a distinct flavor.
