Hotel Recommendations in Vung Tau by mr.hotsia

Vung Tau is a coastal city in Vietnam, located in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. It is a destination I, mr.hotsia, have visited many times. About 170 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, the journey here is not difficult. Importantly, this place offers a perfect blend of sea and mountain atmospheres, ideal for genuine relaxation and fun.

For those planning a trip to Vung Tau and looking for accommodation, I, mr.hotsia, would like to share my detailed personal experience staying here to help you choose the area and hotel that best fits your travel style.

Getting to Know Vung Tau's Geography

Vung Tau has two prominent mountains: the one on the west side calledBig Mountainand the mountain on the east side calledSmall MountainBoth are located near the sea and have one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Vietnam.

If you enjoy mountain views and a peaceful atmosphere, I recommend staying on the mountain. But if you love swimming in the sea, the long eastern beach is perfect because many hotels are beachfront, allowing you to step out and swim immediately.

For those who like walking around the city and want convenience near restaurants and cafes, I suggest staying in the central city area between the two mountains. Although not beachfront, it's easy to reach either the west or east beaches by a short taxi ride.

Accommodation I chose: Nha Nghi Cat Phuong

I, mr.hotsia, stayed at the hotelNha Nghi Cat Phuonglocated on 7A Nguyen Truong To street in the central city area, next to the famous Vietnamese dessert shopBanh Khotwhich is well-known in Vung Tau.

This hotel is Vietnamese-run, with room rates not too expensive, fitting my budget of about 500-600 baht per night. The downside is it’s not beachfront and has no nice view from the rooms. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the west beach, or a short taxi ride to swim at the east beach.

What I liked most is its central city location, convenient travel, easy access to food, with a night market and local restaurants nearby, allowing you to experience authentic Vietnamese lifestyle.

East Coast Beachfront Hotels: Beautiful Views but Higher Prices

If you have a bigger budget and want a beautiful beachfront atmosphere, the east beach called Bai Sau is the best choice. Many large hotels line the beach, with doors opening directly to the sea, allowing long, relaxing beach walks.

However, this area is quiet with few restaurants or cafes scattered around. Most eateries are on the west coast between the two mountains I mentioned. So if you want to eat or enjoy coffee leisurely, you might need to take a taxi to the city area.

Accommodation prices here are considerably higher than where I stayed, but if you want a comfortable stay, I recommend checking outPetro Housewhich offers a seafood buffet I have tried and was very impressed with. You can read my review of the seafood buffet in my article.Seafood Buffetwhich is a must-try dish.

Booking Accommodation and Tips from mr.hotsia

When I went to Vung Tau, I didn’t book accommodation in advance, thinking I could find a place upon arrival. However, good budget hotels were hard to find, and many were over my budget. I recommend booking hotels in advance through popular websites like Agoda to ensure you get the place you want and save time searching upon arrival.

For those wanting an experience like mine, I recommend bookingNha Nghi Cat Phuongwhere I stayed. It’s affordable, conveniently located, and offers a real Vietnamese community experience. But if you have a bigger budget, beachfront hotels like Petro House or others in the Bai Sau beach area are excellent choices.

Additional Notes on Food and Transportation in Vung Tau

Vung Tau is a city with fresh seafood, but seafood restaurants are not very numerous. For a satisfying meal, I recommend the seafood buffet at Petro House as mentioned in my article.Seafood Buffetwhich is very good value and delicious.

For transportation to Vung Tau, if you travel by bus from Ho Chi Minh City or other cities, you can conveniently get off atVung Tau Bus Stationwhich serves many bus lines and offers easy connections to other cities.

If you want to visit Ba Ria city before entering Vung Tau, I have an article recommendingBa Ria – Vung Tau Provincewhich discusses the economic importance and tourist attractions in this area.

Summary from mr.hotsia's Trip

I, mr.hotsia, really like Vung Tau because it has sea, mountains, and an interesting lifestyle. Choosing accommodation depends on your travel style. If you like mountain views and tranquility, stay on the mountain. If you prefer swimming and beautiful sea views, stay on the east beachfront.

For budget travelers wanting an authentic local atmosphere, I recommendNha Nghi Cat Phuongin the city center, with convenient travel and nearby local restaurants and markets to try street food like Vietnamese Banh Khot and fried chicken from Ba Ria.Read More)
