Ba Ria Fried Chicken Rice: A Flavor You Must Try at the Night Market
If you have the chance to travel to Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, which I have previously described in an articleBa Ria – Vung Tau Provinceyou will realize that this place offers more than just beautiful beaches or the sea at Vung Tau. It also has local dishes with bold and memorable flavors like “fried chicken rice,” known locally as “Ga Ro Ti,” at the night market in Ba Ria city.
I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to experience the taste of fried chicken rice at this night market by chance because the hotel I stayed at was not far from the market, easily reachable on foot. It was here that I was amazed by the chicken frying skills of the shop owner, who didn’t just fry normally but skillfully tossed the chicken in the pan in a captivating way. I have rarely seen such a frying style anywhere else.
The chicken used in this dish is marinated with rich seasonings until deeply infused before being fried in hot oil along with fragrant fried shallots. It is served with yellowish chicken rice, or if you prefer plain steamed rice, that works too. The chicken rice is fragrant and rich, though for me, the rice at this place might have been stir-fried a bit too long, making it slightly hard and sticky between the teeth. Overall, the fried chicken’s flavor won my heart completely.
Ba Ria Night Market: A Hub of Local Food and Nightlife Atmosphere
The night market in Ba Ria city is not only famous for its excellent fried chicken rice but also a gathering place for many authentic Vietnamese dishes worth trying, such as pork knuckle noodle soup, with several competing vendors. This dish is popular among locals and tourists alike who visit here.
The noodle soup tastes similar to regular clear broth noodles, but what sets it apart is the tender, well-cooked pork knuckle, both meat and skin, which is enjoyable to chew along with fresh vegetables served on the side. I believe anyone visiting Ba Ria should try this dish at least once.

Travel and Accommodation Experience in Ba Ria – Vung Tau
If you travel here by bus like I did, you will pass through Ba Ria city first before reaching Vung Tau, which is about 20 kilometers away. For those planning to visit and want accommodation convenient for traveling to markets or beaches, I recommend checking the hotel selection information in my articleHotel Recommendations in Vung Tau: Visiting Vung Tauwhich I have written before, as I stayed at a small hotel in the city center, within a 10-minute walk to the night market and the beach.
For seafood lovers who want to try an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet, I, mr.hotsia, have recommended the seafood buffet at Petro House Hotel in Vung Tau, which is not far from Ba Ria. Dining at this buffet was a very impressive experience, especially the roast duck and tender chicken available unlimited, along with fresh seafood that can be grilled to your liking. It’s truly a delight for seafood enthusiasts. Read more atSeafood Buffet
