Ba Ria Morning Market: A blended lifestyle of Southern Vietnamese
Speaking of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, located just 90 kilometers southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, this city not only offers beautiful beaches and a captivating seaside atmosphere,Ba Riabut also a lively morning market full of local charm that I, mr.hotsia, have personally experienced and want to share with friends.
The Ba Ria morning market is located near the hotel where I stayed, called Thanh Van Hotel, which is in the night market zone and not far from the bus station. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel to the morning market. The special thing about this market is that you don’t have to wake up too early because it becomes lively in the late morning, which is the perfect time to stroll and experience the local lifestyle.
I really enjoyed sipping hot coffee from a small coffee shop next to the market while watching people bustling with buying and selling. Both vendors and traders bring fresh seafood from Vung Tau Sea to sell, including fish, shrimp, squid, and catfish, which is a famous local specialty. The catfish here is very large, with a square-shaped head and eyes that seem to be smiling happily. I couldn’t resist taking photos to keep as memories.
One of my favorite scenes was seeing municipal officers controlling street vending in the late morning to maintain order. I’ve seen this in many Vietnamese cities, and it signals that the best time to visit Ba Ria morning market should not be too late because the atmosphere may change afterward.
Besides fresh seafood, the market also offers many interesting local dishes, such as fried chicken rice, known locally as “Ga Ro Ti,” which I tried and must say was very impressive. The professional frying skills of the chef make the chicken crispy on the outside and tender inside, with authentic Vietnamese spices. Those interested can read more atBa Ria Fried Chicken Ricewhich I have written about before.
If anyone plans to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Ba Ria, traveling by car or bus is very convenient. To continue to Vung Tau, it’s only about 20 kilometers further. Or if you want to try the experience like me, mr.hotsia, I recommend taking a bus from Ba Ria to Vung Tau bus station, which is very convenient. More details can be found atVung Tau Bus Station
For those who love the sea and want to relax by the beach, I have accommodation recommendations in Vung Tau. Vung Tau is a coastal city with both mountains and beautiful beaches, and there are many interesting hotels. More information is available atRecommended Hotels in Vung Tau - Visiting Vung Tauwhich I have reviewed.
And speaking of seafood, I recommend the seafood buffet in Vung Tau, which was another highlight of my visit to Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. More details and the delicious experience I had at this buffet can be read atSeafood Buffetby me.
Therefore, Ba Ria morning market is not just an ordinary market but a place that gathers the life, livelihood, and culture of Southern Vietnamese in every corner — the scent of fresh seafood, the chatter of vendors and buyers, and the people choosing their goods. I, mr.hotsia, recommend anyone visiting this area to wake up late and visit this morning market to truly get to know Ba Ria city and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
