One perfect choice for independent travel in Hanoi, Vietnam is to fly AirAsia back to Thailand. For this trip with me and Jack (my niece’s son), I traveled from Chiang Khong, crossed to Huay Sai, then took a boat to Pak Beng, followed by Luang Prabang. After that, I took a bus to Oudomxay, then to Muang Khua, crossed to Dien Bien Phu, went to Sapa, and finally took a train to Hanoi, including a visit to Muang Mai Jaw (Thai Yao).
Going to Halong City made me want a comfortable flight back to Thailand, so we chose AirAsia service. Just a few hours and we arrived at Suvarnabhumi. It was a perfect trip. When booking AirAsia return tickets, if you have a credit card and know your return date, book immediately. The earlier you book, the cheaper the price. Ideally, if your plan is fixed, buy tickets while still in Thailand. For those without credit cards, you can buy at the AirAsia counter in Hanoi.
It’s located on the east side near Hanoi Lake, around the popular ice cream shops. In Hanoi, ticket offices can sell tickets but they are expensive. Buying directly from AirAsia is much cheaper. Hanoi airport is about 40 kilometers from the city. A taxi costs about 10 USD for a private ride. Most taxi tickets are bundled with hotel bookings. They sell everything to you. After security check at the airport,
go up to the second floor for the food court. At first, I didn’t see it and ate at the Sky restaurant downstairs, which was expensive. The upstairs food court is probably cheaper. After a tiring trip, relax and reward yourself. No need to take the sleeper bus from Hanoi to Vientiane, fly comfortably instead. Mr.Hotsia also took photos of AirAsia flight attendants to share.
