But if by car, the fastest from Bangkok is one night in Nong Khai, one day from Nong Khai to Vientiane (2 hours but wait for the bus departing at 8 PM), then from Vientiane to Hanoi another 1 day and 1 night. In Vietnam, the system is through agencies with many agents all over the city. Prices vary. Most staff speak English, so communication is not difficult. I bought the bus ticket through an agency near my accommodation. The 1,200 baht price includes hotel pickup, which is convenient for travel in this country.
