The food is pre-made and served cold, but the atmosphere is very nice. There are many hotels on the main road with prices around 600 baht per night. The rooms are good, air-conditioned, with TV, but some rooms may smell of smoke. I stayed in the city center for two nights on May 4-5, 2015 at Victory Hotel, price 600 baht per night. The internet is fast but often disconnects. This city is large and crowded with many karaoke bars lining the alleys behind the hotel.
This area is the city's nightlife spot but I did not try the services. Some hotels in Vietnam have massage and karaoke bars. The karaoke bars in Thai Nguyen (Thái Nguyên) I passed by and asked the staff, they said it is a singing room where you can invite Vietnamese girls to join you for singing. I smelled a lot of cigarette smoke passing by, so I did not try the karaoke experience in Vietnam.
Back to the accommodation area in Thai Nguyen, I recommend staying on the main street where I stayed at Victory Hotel because it is easy to walk to the market, close to the bus station so you don’t need a taxi, and there are many food options nearby.
