In Phuc province, I found a Big C Vietnam about 7 kilometers from the city center (click to see the Google map coordinates above the photo). I read more information online and on Wikipedia that there are about 20 Big C stores in Vietnam, and there is also a Big C branch opening in Vientiane, Laos. The Big C stores in Vietnam are arranged like those in Thailand, with many Thai products sold. I feel that Vietnamese people like Thai products, but the stores also sell Chinese goods, including cheap clothing from China, which I bought because it was inexpensive.

For independent travelers like Mr.Hotsia, if staying near a mall such as COOP or Big C, I usually buy food from these malls because I trust their standard prices. Also, it helps me check the average prices before visiting other cities to know if regular shops are overcharging. If they are, I avoid buying from those shops. I have experienced small roadside shops selling water priced at 20 baht when it only costs 5 baht.

One problem for tourists shopping in malls is the need to leave their bags at the counter. Sometimes, when carrying many valuables, I don't want to leave them. If traveling with friends, they can watch the bags, but when alone like me, sometimes I leave them or hide them in the room. I only have my work computer as a valuable item, nothing else. Almost all malls prohibit photography, but if I quickly take photos of myself as souvenirs, it usually causes no issues.

I enjoy walking around malls like Big C and COOP (pronounced 'Coop' by Vietnamese). I find unusual foods, exotic fruits, and meet people, observing lifestyles that are gradually being replaced by malls instead of traditional markets. Soon, fresh markets will slowly disappear in Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. I am proud to have many fresh market clips to show future generations what our cities looked like in the past.
