The main tourist spot on the mountain I visited is about 75 kilometers north of Hanoi. Tam Dao Mountain reaches a peak of 1,592 meters above sea level, making it a popular summer retreat for Hanoi residents. Tam Dao is a mountain with three peaks and a valley in the middle, with beautiful mist all year round. It is like a mini Sapa not far from Hanoi. I highly recommend Thai travelers to visit Tam Dao. The trip is easier than going to Sapa, the weather is great, and most importantly, it is close to Hanoi. If you have limited time, this is the place to visit.
Most tourists drive directly and do not stop in Vinh Yen city, which makes the city atmosphere very charming for walking tours. To get to Tam Dao Mountain from Vinh Yen city, Vinh Phuc Province, take a bus from Kim Ma bus station in Hanoi. It takes about 1 hour and costs around 30 baht to reach Vinh Yen city first. From Vinh Yen, take a taxi up the mountain. Taxi drivers here are familiar with the route since Tam Dao is a high mountain and requires experience driving.
Do not take a taxi directly from Hanoi to Tam Dao. It is better to transfer at Vinh Yen. For the return trip, ask the vendors at the top to call a taxi to pick you up at the bottom; the price is similar to the trip up. The weather at Tam Dao summit sometimes has rain, mist, and clear skies with beautiful views. The weather changes frequently but is always cool and comfortable year-round. There are many hotels at the top; choose one with Wi-Fi if you want. Prices start from 500 baht per night. There is a food zone focusing on hot liquor. Mist floats everywhere.
Hot pot liquor is very satisfying. Today, Tam Dao Mountain is mostly visited by Vietnamese tourists, but it will surely become famous soon.
