Cambodia Bird Eye View: A high angle over Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia

When talking about Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, many people think of bustling streets, roadside fresh markets, or the Mekong River flowing through the city center. But for me, mr.hotsia, seeing Phnom Penh from a high angle on the airplane was a worldview-opening experience of a different kind.

On this trip, I arrived at Phnom Penh International Airport with the intention to capture images and feelings of this city from angles that typical tourists might not see. Flying into Phnom Penh allowed me to see an overview of the city located beside two major rivers: the Mekong River and the Tonle Sap River, which are key connections for the country's ecosystem and transportation.

From the airplane window, I saw the orderly intersecting roads, houses and tall buildings scattered along the riverbanks, including the palace distinguished by its golden roof. The morning sunlight cast a glow that made the city's colors come alive incredibly.

The aerial view also revealed the local lifestyle that I have deeply experienced on previous trips, such as the bustling morning fresh markets or small streets filled with tuk-tuks and motorcycles. Though small scenes, these are the heart of Phnom Penh that I like the most.

Travel experience and exploring Phnom Penh

If anyone plans to travel from Phnom Penh to other places in Cambodia, I recommend checking outPhnom Penh Bus Stationwhich is the central hub for traveling to various provinces. Most buses here are air-conditioned and comfortable, though sometimes not as cool as expected, but suitable for Cambodia's climate.

From my experience, I took a bus from Soray Tour company to Takeo province, located south of Phnom Penh. The journey took about two and a half hours, passing through landscapes changing from urban to rural filled with rice fields and traditional houses, evoking the simple and peaceful lifestyle of Cambodian countryside people.Bus from Phnom Penh to Takeo provinceruns several times a day, making trip planning convenient.

Riverside lifestyle and fresh markets in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is famous for its lively and diverse fresh markets. I have walked early mornings to Phnom Penh fresh market to experience authentic food and atmosphere. Here you will see vendors arranging fresh goods including vegetables, fruits, fish, and various meats, as well as traditional Cambodian dishes worth trying.Cambodian foodsuch as roast duck or mango sticky rice, which I really like, are easy to find in these markets.

From the high angle in the airplane, I thought of these markets with their colorful roofs and nonstop activity. It reflects the life and energy of Phnom Penh city, which I have recorded in videos intended to share with fellow travelers to show the true face of this city without embellishment.Cambodia bird eye view Phnom Penh Cambodia seen from the airplaneis a good example of a different perspective.

Udong City: History connected to Phnom Penh

While in Phnom Penh, I had the chance to pass through Udong, the former capital of Cambodia before it moved to Phnom Penh. Although I did not explore deeply this time, I feel this is an important part of the country's history.
