Delicious noodle shops in Phnom Penh with real experiences from mr.hotsia
Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, is not only known for its historical and cultural attractions but also for its food, which is a charm Imr.hotsiamust talk about at length because every time I visit this city, I try to stop by noodle shops that locals in Phnom Penh really enjoy. On my latest walk around near the central fresh market, I found a noodle shop so delicious that I have to share it.
This shop is located not far from my accommodation atAngkor Mithona Guest HouseThe surrounding area is lively with many locals shopping and eating. The shop is clean and tidy, filled with the fragrant aroma of carefully simmered noodle broth. There are various noodle dishes on the menu, but I recommend the soup noodles, which have a well-balanced and rich flavor, unlike many shops in the city where the broth is often too thin or bland.
Besides noodles, this shop also serves coffee. Although the coffee is not particularly outstanding, it complements breakfast or lunch well. Overall, the highlight of the shop is the noodles and the convenience of its location near the fresh market, a hub for fresh food and local delicacies, offering a genuine glimpse into the life of Phnom Penh residents.
Travel and Atmosphere Around the Noodle Shop in Phnom Penh
If you are planning to visit Phnom Penh and want to try local food not far from the main tourist spots, this noodle shop is highly recommended. I walked here from the fresh market, which is the center of Phnom Penh life in the morning. Passing by various shops selling vegetables, fruits, and fresh food, it reminded me ofPhnom Penh Fresh Market 2013which I have written about before.
For getting here, if you just arrived from Phnom Penh Bus Station, the travel is very convenient. I recommend reading aboutPhnom Penh Bus Stationwhich I have documented. It helps understand Cambodia's transport system that might seem complicated for newcomers but is actually manageable if you buy tickets through hotel agencies like I did.
Also, if you plan to travel to other provinces such as Takeo or other southern provinces of Cambodia, you can plan well from here because there are buses connecting many provinces. I have explained this in the articleBuses from Phnom Penh to Takeo Provincewhich details the bus schedules and ticket purchasing methods. Traveling back and forth is convenient for those who want to continue exploring.
My Favorite Noodle Flavor in Phnom Penh
My first impression of this noodle shop is the care put into the broth, which has the aroma of authentic Khmer herbs and spices but is not overpowering. The flavor is balanced with just the right salty-sweet taste, requiring little additional seasoning. I have tried both beef and pork noodles each time. The meat is quite tender and fresh, and the broth reminds me of clear noodle soup from home but with a unique Khmer spice twist.
Additionally, the shop serves coffee which, although not as distinctive as Vietnamese or Thai coffee, has a moderate taste suitable for those wanting a hot coffee to refresh after walking around the hot city of Phnom Penh.
Besides the noodle shop, I suggest exploring the nearby fresh market to see fresh ingredients and the authentic lifestyle of locals. Walking around here reminded me of the atmosphere inPhnom Penh Travel Informationwhich I have recorded before, including the Mekong River flowing through the city and the lively riverside markets.
Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia
