If you have the chance to travel to Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia, one thing mr.hotsia does not want you to miss is waking up early to drink coffee at the Kampong Cham morning market, or as the Khmer call it “Kompong Cham” (កំពង់ចាម). This market is not just an ordinary fresh market but a gateway to truly experience the life of riverside locals along the Mekong River.

First, I must say that Kampong Cham is located along the Mekong River. My route was from Siem Reap, passing through Kampong Thom, arriving at Kampong Cham city. Walking into the Kampong Cham morning market early in the morning, the first thing you notice is the fragrant aroma of roasted coffee filling the market. One of my favorite specialties is the “Khmer black coffee,” rich but not overly bitter, with nutty and traditional roasted aromas. Coffee here is usually served with toasted bread or simple local snacks, a perfect set to recharge before starting the day.

The riverside in Kampong Cham has been developed into a relaxation area with paved walkways, fountains, and various statues, making it very relaxing. It’s perfect for cycling or walking in the fresh morning air.
