I arrived at Siem Reap Bus Station without prior knowledge because the van ticket I bought from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh said it was a van but took me to change buses at the bus station. I think it might be a commission system here, but it's fine, very relaxed. The regular bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh on my trip departed at 12:30 PM, stopped for a meal at 4:30 PM, then continued to Phnom Penh arriving around 7 PM. The bus route from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh runs along the northern side of Tonle Sap, passing Kampong Thom province.
Seats are assigned but people don’t always sit in the right spots. I recommend requesting a seat on the left side if traveling in the afternoon to avoid the heat and enjoy beautiful views of the Cambodian countryside. Old-style ox carts pass by occasionally. There are few vehicles on the road.
