Bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh Prepare for an Exciting Trip Journey from Poipet (Rong Kluea Market) to Siem Reap Phnom Penh Pursat The most convenient way to travel to Cambodia by car is through the Poipet border checkpoint, which is opposite Rong Kluea Market, Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo Province. It is a major checkpoint with good roads and the main gateway for tourism in Cambodia. Starting from Bangkok, travel from Bangkok to Rong Kluea Market, Rong Kluea.
To cross to Poipet checkpoint, mr.hotsia takes the bus from Ekkamai. Buses from Ekkamai to Rong Kluea Market depart at 06:15, 08:30, 10:30, 12:30, and 16:00. The journey takes 4 hours and costs 200 Baht. The route uses the motorway passing through Sa Kaeo to Rong Kluea Market. Besides Ekkamai, buses also depart from Mo Chit 2, or you can take a van from Victory Monument or Bang Na to Rong Kluea Market, which takes only 2 hours. There are also casino buses but I did not use their service.
Because if you take the casino bus, they say you must play at that casino for a while. Also, as a budget traveler, I recommend taking the large transport buses. Around Rong Kluea Market, there are banks where you can exchange money but they do not exchange Cambodian riel. Cambodia uses US dollars and Cambodian riel. Exchange dollars as needed and carry many small bills because no one can give change for 100 dollar bills. Then proceed through Thai and Cambodian border procedures to Poipet checkpoint.
After getting your entry stamp at Poipet checkpoint, which is at the end of the casino area, once your entry stamp is done (Thai travelers do not need a visa and can stay for two weeks), there is a free bus service to the tourist bus station about 5-7 kilometers from here. This is a government service for tourists. Use this service only. It is good, cheap, and you don't have to take crowded shared taxis nearby which are more expensive.
Take the bus and wait there; buses depart regularly. Upon arrival at the Poipet Tourist Passenger International Terminal, there are food stalls and ticket counters for both shared taxis and government buses. There are restaurants and buses to Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, and Pursat. A taxi to Siem Reap for 4 people costs 12 USD per person. An air-conditioned bus costs 9 USD per person. The bus to Phnom Penh costs 15 USD per person.
Bus fares to various cities from Poipet checkpoint: Sisophon 5 USD, Pursat 10 USD, Phnom Penh 15 USD, Siem Reap 9 USD. A taxi from Poipet to Siem Reap costs 48 USD per vehicle. You can also exchange Cambodian riel at this tourist building. The exchange rate is 1 Thai Baht equals 102 Cambodian riel, and 1 USD equals 3,800 riel. If you want to book hotels in Siem Reap or Phnom Penh or accommodations in Cambodia,
Use Agoda services via the link provided. For information about my Cambodia trip, see here. Additionally, during my visit to Siem Reap in August 2012, there are two government-managed international tourist bus stops. The first one I recommended is 10 kilometers from the border. The other is in the city. Both have the same bus fare and use shuttle buses from the main stop, alternating days for parking. mr.hotsia April 2012
