T-Shirt Painting in China at Fenghuang Ancient Town, Zhangjiajie
When talking about unique experiences in Fenghuang Ancient Town, Zhangjiajie Province in China, one thing that mr.hotsia encountered and must share is a T-shirt painting shop located in the souvenir zone of this town. While strolling and looking at souvenirs, I was drawn to a T-shirt shop that allowed customers to paint their own designs on the shirts. The inviting voice to try it out was irresistible, so I had to give it a shot.
This shop is not an ordinary T-shirt painting store you see everywhere because they have collected many traditional Chinese style patterns to choose from, ranging from ancient floral designs to classic Chinese characters. What I intended to do was to paint the words “Hotsia.com” and “เที่ยวสะใจ” on two shirts I bought. I chose the colors and brushes provided by the shop and then painted freely as I liked.
Laughter and fun happened immediately because painting a T-shirt was not as easy as I thought. The colors given by the shop were not very durable, and my coloring was not as perfect as I expected. The seller himself was not very skilled at painting; he focused more on selling the story than the actual quality of the work. This is the real experience I want to share: “Don’t expect too much from things that look beautiful in the shop.”
In summary, if you want a beautiful patterned T-shirt from Fenghuang Ancient Town, I recommend buying pre-printed shirts that have a wider and more diverse selection to avoid disappointment like mine. Feeling that the shirt’s quality is worth the price is very important because the painted shirts here are quite expensive compared to the quality you get.

Summary from mr.hotsia
My trip to Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang Ancient Town was full of impressions of the lifestyle and culture of China that have been well preserved. However, there were small things like the T-shirt painting shop I encountered that made me realize sometimes things that look good in pictures may not always match reality. The important thing is to experience and learn about these differences yourself, which makes mr.hotsia’s journey more valuable.
