Tanah Lot Bali: The seaside temple you must experience before time changes

When talking about Bali, many people think of beautiful seas, strong waves for surfing, or the Hindu culture that permeates daily life of the Balinese. But for me, mr.hotsia, Tanah Lot Temple is a place that should be pinned as one of the first destinations when visiting this island.

Tanah Lot is located about 15 kilometers from Denpasar city. The road to this temple is quite narrow and passes through lush green rice fields that the Balinese still harvest diligently. I rented a car in Bali for about 40 USD per day, or around 1,200 THB. Although the rental car was not very safe and sometimes had to be parked in less suitable places, having a private car allowed me to stop at various spots freely.

Upon arriving at Tanah Lot Temple, the first thing I felt was the tranquility and the power of nature surrounding this temple. The temple is situated on a rocky outcrop by the sea, continuously battered by waves forming a beautiful natural arch rock. The highlight here is the view of the cliffs and the vast sea accompanied by the endless sound of waves crashing against the rocks.

Tanah Lot Temple is not just an ordinary tourist spot; it is a cultural and Hindu religious symbol of Bali with a long history. It holds significance comparable to Uluwatu Temple located in the south of the island. And if you are not a professional surfer like the foreigners who come to Bali to surf, visiting Tanah Lot Temple is a must-do mission when here.

Travel and Touring Around Tanah Lot

As mentioned, roads in Bali, especially the route to Tanah Lot, are quite narrow and not very safe. I recommend that if you come in a group of four, renting a car is the best option because you can share costs and have more flexibility in travel compared to joining group tours which sometimes require long waiting times.

For those staying in the Kuta area, a popular spot for tourists in Bali, there are options to join tours with foreigners at a cheaper price than renting a car. But if you want freedom and to travel like mr.hotsia who enjoys adventurous trips, I recommend renting a car because you can stop at various spots around Tanah Lot as you wish.

Anyone interested in studying Hindu culture and Balinese lifestyle should not miss Ubud town, which is not far from Tanah Lot. I have shared my experiences in an article.Ubud Town, BaliThere you will see the Balinese way of life from a different perspective, including art, culture, and beautiful nature.

Bali is not just sea but life and culture worth learning about.

When talking about Bali overall, some may see it as an island with beautiful seas and strong waves for surfing, but it is much more than that. mr.hotsia assures you that the true Bali is not just the beaches but the lifestyle, beliefs, and religion deeply embedded in every corner of the island.

Bali is a province of Indonesia with a Hindu culture distinct from other parts of the country that predominantly practice Islam. Every home has a private shrine used for worship and rituals strictly passed down through tradition. I have written detailed travel experiences and the atmosphere of Bali town in an article.Traveling from Denpasar Bali Airport to the CityThat will help you understand Bali better

Atmosphere and Coastal Life at Tanah Lot

At Tanah Lot, besides the beauty of the temple and nature, I also saw Balinese villagers living simply by the sea, engaging in fishing and agriculture that still rely heavily on nature. The lush green rice fields seen along the way impressed me greatly as they show the Balinese people's true connection to the land and nature.

In the evening, you can enjoy one of Bali’s most popular sunset viewpoints here. If you have the chance, I recommend sitting to watch the sunset at least once. I guarantee you will not forget this experience easily.

I, mr.hotsia, recommend that if you travel to Bali, Tanah Lot is a place you really should not miss. Although the journey may not be as comfortable as in big cities, the beauty and tranquility here will make your visit worthwhile.
