Experience the atmosphere of the Lao Ramwong Festival in Champasak Province with mr.hotsia
Many who have watched the films"Sabaidee Luang Prabang"Parts 1 and 2 will surely remember the wedding Ramwong scene of Khun Khamli's friend, which is the traditional Lao ceremony called "Bussalob." However, the experience I, mr.hotsia, had in Champasak was a Ramwong event in a different style with its own unique charm that I want to share.
The Ramwong I attended was a youth Ramwong at a casual party, simply called "Ramwong," which differs from the more formal Bussalob ceremony. The event featured alternating music between traditional Lao Ramwong songs and modern string music from both Thailand and Laos. The MC on stage invited different groups to join the Ramwong in each round. For example, during my visit, one round was for Unitel company employees, who all joyfully joined the circle dance together.
The stage lights would briefly dim to invite the participants to come out and dance Ramwong. Then the lights brightened with music starting, and everyone held hands forming a circle, spinning beautifully and warmly. After a while, people from other tables joined in, filling the atmosphere with fun and genuine friendliness.
During the string music interlude, young people danced in their own styles—some energetically, others with charming moves. There were also dancers on stage wearing fitted sexy outfits performing along with the music. A female singer dressed in traditional Lao sinh sang sweetly, making me feel the authentic Lao spirit blended perfectly with modernity.
I watched the Ramwong while tasting Lao beer sold around the event. At one point, an older Lao man who seemed slightly drunk approached me and kindly offered a Lao beer. I told him, "I don't drink," as I had already had two bottles and needed to save energy for writing and selecting photos for the video. He smiled, shook my hand, and returned to his table. Encounters like this made me feel the warmth and sincerity of the true Lao people.
