Tad Yeung, a beautiful waterfall in the heart of Pakseong, Champasak Province
When talking about waterfalls in southern Laos that I, mr.hotsia, am especially impressed by, one of them must definitely beTad Yeungor what is commonly called "Tad Yeung Waterfall." This waterfall is located in Champasak Province, southern Laos, in the Pakseong area, known as the coffee capital and a wonderful natural tourist destination.
I have visited here many times, and every time, Tad Yeung Waterfall continues to impress me just the same. The highlight of this waterfall is that you don't have to trek or climb far to reach the viewpoint. Just drive from the main highway at kilometer 40 between Pakse and Pakseong, turn right and go about 3 kilometers more, and you will arrive at the waterfall.
Afternoon sunlight and the atmosphere at Tad Yeung Waterfall
I, mr.hotsia, recommend visiting around 3-4 PM because the sunlight beautifully shines through the waterfall at this time. The waterfall looks most vibrant then, and this is not just my opinion but a common knowledge among locals in Pakseong that the waterfall is at its most beautiful in the afternoon.
This waterfall has a tiered structure, not as tall as the Sekatam Waterfall well known to many Thais, but in terms of beauty and atmosphere, it is definitely comparable. Above the waterfall, there is a walking path around where you can stroll and enjoy the view comfortably. In the evening, you can see local Lao people relaxing or bathing, offering a rare glimpse of rural life not often seen in big cities.
Rent a motorcycle to explore Pakseong and enhance your fun
For traveling in this area, I, mr.hotsia, say renting a motorcycle is the best choice because many waterfalls around Pakseong, such as Tad Yeung, Tad Fan, and Phasoum Waterfalls, are not far apart. Having a motorcycle allows you to travel flexibly and fully enjoy the surrounding nature.
The terrain in Pakseong is a plateau with cool weather all year round. Although it is in the tropical south, the elevation lowers the temperature significantly, making the atmosphere similar to mountain areas in Thailand. I have ridden motorcycles around the waterfalls and stopped at small coffee shops or tasted fresh coffee in Pakseong, known as the coffee capital of Laos.
Fees and preparation
Entrance to Tad Yeung costs only 20 Thai Baht, which is very reasonable for the beauty and convenience without a long walk. I, mr.hotsia, recommend bringing drinking water and comfortable walking shoes because the area around the waterfall has rocky paths and some slippery spots.
Traveling from Bangkok to Tad Yeung Waterfall
For those planning to visit Tad Yeung like me, mr.hotsia, you should start from Bangkok, take a bus to Ubon Ratchathani Province. From Ubon, there are regular buses to Pakse, Laos, which are convenient and affordable. Upon arrival in Pakse, you can take another vehicle to Pakseong, about 50 kilometers away. This route is slightly winding uphill, making the atmosphere cool and different from typical lowlands.
In Pakseong, I have already written recommendations about traveling and renting motorcycles. If interested, you can read more atTravel Pakseong, Pakse City, Champasak Provincewhich will make your travel experience more complete and easier.
Connections to nearby attractions
If you have more time, I, mr.hotsia, recommend visitingWat Phu Templewhich is not far from Pakse. It is a cultural and historical World Heritage site worth exploring. Traveling from Pakse to Wat Phu is convenient and offers a genuine look at rural Lao life.
Additionally, local markets such as14th Marketin Pakse is another spot I, mr.hotsia, enjoy visiting to stroll, taste local food, and experience the simple yet charming daily life of Laos.
Summary of impressions from Tad Yeung
Tad Yeung Waterfall is not just an ordinary waterfall in southern Laos but a place full of natural beauty and tranquility, perfect for those wanting to escape the hustle and recharge. I, mr.hotsia, want everyone who loves nature and independent travel to visit here at least once. The journey is not difficult, and the atmosphere is truly wonderful.
If you are planning a trip to southern Laos, don't forget to include Tad Yeung on your list. You will realize that happiness from nature nearby doesn't require going far at all.
