End of Laos High-Speed Train Trip 10/10: Wang Vieng Roti by Mr.Hotsia

After I, Mr.Hotsia, fully enjoyed the adventure on the Laos high-speed train, the final destination I chose to stop by was not a big city or a luxurious place, but “Wang Vieng,” a small tourist town with a truly simple and natural charm.

Wang Vieng is located in Vientiane Province, Laos, and is well known among Thai tourists. Many choose to stay overnight for several days to soak in the atmosphere of the clear, cool Nam Song River and the uniquely shaped limestone mountains that beautifully surround the town, especially during the thick foggy winter or the summer season perfect for swimming.

For me, this trip to Wang Vieng started from Vientiane, the capital city where I stayed previously. If you have followed my stories onTraveling Vientianeyou will know that this place is perfect for an evening walk along the Mekong River or renting a bicycle to visit important temples like Pha That Luang and Wat Sisaket, which remain impressively old and peaceful.

The journey from Vientiane to Wang Vieng is quite fun and challenging. I chose to take a van departing from the Kham Khong area, which took about 4 hours. The route passes through mountains and villages where the traditional lifestyle of the Lao people can be seen all along the way.

Upon arriving in Wang Vieng, the first thing I did was look for the signature local food. “Wang Vieng Roti” was the answer I couldn’t miss. Imagine thin, crispy roti served with a delicious dipping sauce or spicy curry that surprisingly pairs well. Every bite is filled with the fragrant richness of the dough and the spicy heat of the sauce that makes your tongue tingle.

Most of these roti shops are located along the road or in the central market area, which is lively all day, especially in the evening when tourists and locals gather warmly. I chose to sit and enjoy roti with a cold Lao beer, relaxing in a peaceful atmosphere without the hustle and bustle of a big city.

Besides delicious food, exploring nature and outdoor activities are another highlight I really enjoyed. Here, you can choose from activities like rafting on the clear Nam Song River, climbing limestone mountains, to cycling around the town. I tried cycling along small paths through Lao villages that still maintain a simple lifestyle and had impressive friendly conversations with the locals.

If anyone is interested, I recommend planning to stay here for at least 2-3 nights to fully experience the town’s atmosphere and nature, as well as to have the chance to try more uniquely charming dishes.

When returning to Vientiane again before taking the train or continuing the journey, I usually find time to rest at a coffee shop likeTrue Coffee Vientianea coffee shop famous for its good service and a relaxing atmosphere during the hot afternoon. The shop is filled with tourists and locals who come to sip fresh coffee and use free Wifi. I spent time here planning my next trip and updating social media for mr.hotsia fans to follow closely.

For anyone wanting a complete Laos trip from the capital Vientiane to the small town of Wang Vieng, along with local food experiences like Wang Vieng roti, I recommend using the Laos high-speed train service I chose. It makes travel convenient, fast, and gives us more time to explore. As I, mr.hotsia, say, 10/10!
