Shopping Mall Vientiane: A place for relaxation and shopping in the capital of Laos
I, Mr.Hotsia, have had the chance to visit Vientiane several times, but I must say that for this trip, I intended to experience another atmosphere that many might overlook, which is the “Shopping Mall” in Vientiane. In fact, it is a place suitable for relaxation, escaping the hot sun, and experiencing city life in a way different from walking along the Mekong River or visiting temples that I have previously recommended inTraveling in Vientianebefore
Vientiane during the daytime is hot and intensely sunny without mercy. Finding a cool place like a shopping mall is therefore a very good option. I walked into a mall located in the city center, which is moderately sized—not as large as malls in Bangkok but fully equipped with local brand shops and imported goods from China and Korea, including a wide variety of daily necessities.
What I liked most was the food center zone on the upper floor of the mall. There are many food options at very reasonable prices compared to the quality and cleanliness. I ordered Lao fried rice with a mild flavor, paired with spicy Lao papaya salad, which was very energizing. For those who enjoy trying local food but don’t want to risk the outside environment, Shopping Mall Vientiane is a great choice.
Besides the food center, the mall also has fashion clothing stores, both from Lao designers and imports. The street fashion here is impressive. I saw Vientiane youth shopping and dressing stylishly. I also had the chance to sneak a peek at fashion trends here, whether casual outfits or clothes suitable for the hot weather like this.
After finishing my meal, I sat in the spacious and simply decorated lobby of the mall, watching people pass by. Many were Thai tourists shopping or Lao families looking for daily necessities. Vientiane remains a city with simplicity and community warmth, even with modern malls like this.
If anyone visits Vientiane and wants to take a break from the strong sun, I recommend stopping by this shopping mall. Besides getting souvenirs to take home, it’s also a great opportunity to see another side of city life, different from walking along the Mekong River in the evening or visiting temples such asWat Sisaket, Vientianewhich I have written about before
truly connecting with the atmosphere of Vientiane
I, Mr.Hotsia, enjoy traveling slowly and unhurriedly. Vientiane is very suitable for relaxation after exploring other cities like Luang Prabang or Vang Vieng, which I have also recommended inVang Vieng, VientianeWalking around this shopping mall feels like recharging before going out to explore the city further.
When I come to Vientiane, I usually like to stop by a cool coffee shop before continuing my walk. There is a good coffee shop here calledTrue Coffee Vientianewhich I recommend trying at least once because besides delicious coffee, the atmosphere makes you feel like you are in a lively big city.
Inside this shopping mall, there are also coffee shops and restaurants with good service and comfortable seating areas, perfect for resting and planning the next trip. Or if anyone wants to try their luck like me, stopping by to play scratch lottery tickets on the lower floor is a fun activity that adds color to the journey.
Travel and advice from Mr.Hotsia
Getting to the shopping mall in Vientiane is very easy. It is located in the city center, close to important tourist spots like the morning market and the Mekong River. You can rent a bicycle or use tuk-tuk services in the city for convenience. Also, for those visiting Vientiane who want a comfortable stay, I recommendPomprasert Hotelwhich I have stayed at and was very impressed with. The accommodation is clean, reasonably priced, and not far from shopping areas and various tourist attractions in the city.
For those who like simplicity and want to try local food, I suggest walking around the morning market and stopping to eatKhao Piak Vientianea genuine Lao rice porridge restaurant that I have tried and found to be truly delicious. It’s another experience not to be missed.
Summary
The shopping mall in Vientiane may not be the first tourist attraction that every traveler thinks of, but for me, Mr.Hotsia, it is a place that makes traveling in Vientiane more complete in terms of relaxation, dining, and experiencing urban culture from a new perspective that is not hectic and full of natural warmth.
If you have the chance to visit Vientiane during the hot daytime, try stopping by the shopping mall, have a meal, or sip iced coffee once, and you will realize that Vientiane is not just about Pha That Luang or the Mekong River.
