Riding the Laos High-Speed Train from Vientiane to Luang Prabang with a firsthand experience by mr.hotsia
When it comes to traveling in Laos, one of the experiences that mr.hotsia highly recommends is riding theLaos High-Speed Trainwhich connectsVientianethe peaceful capital city to the World Heritage city of Luang Prabang. This trip is unlike any other I have experienced because the brand-new train glides smoothly through mountains and along the Mekong River, providing a sense of safety and comfort I have never felt before in Laos.
I started my trip in Vientiane Province, a city I am very familiar with from previous travels. Vientiane is not as large as typical capitals but is full of simple charm. It is a perfect place to relax after a long journey. On the day I took the train, I had enough time to stroll along the Mekong River in Vientiane, where a newly completed riverside road is ideal for relaxing and watching the sunset with a peaceful atmosphere rarely found in other capitals.
Before boarding the train, I stopped to recharge with an iced coffee atTrue Coffee Vientianea café I consider a meeting point for both tourists and locals alike. The cool air conditioning and the aroma of fresh coffee prepared me well for the long journey ahead.
Boarding the high-speed train at the main station in Vientiane was very convenient. There was no long queue or hassle like with regular buses. The train has modern carriages with comfortable, spacious seats and strong air conditioning, allowing me to fully enjoy the scenic views without worrying about dust or bumpy roads like on a bus.
The railway stretches along a landscape of rugged mountains and the winding Mekong River. I watched green rice fields and traditional Lao villages passing by. The train slowly crossed several important river bridges, offering a unique perspective of life along the Mekong that is different from traveling by car or van.
I couldn’t help but recall previous trips when I traveled by van from Vientiane toVang Viengwhich took about 4 hours on much more winding and rough roads. This time, with the high-speed train, it took me about 3 hours to reach Luang Prabang, which was much faster and more comfortable.
Luang Prabang, the World Heritage city that everyone falls in love with, has a peaceful atmosphere filled with ancient temples. The weather here is cooler than in the south by several degrees. After getting off the train, I wandered through the morning market, sampling local dishes like Khao Piak and traditional coffee at small shops open early. This moment truly reminded me of the simple life of the Lao people.
For those who want to deeply experience the charm of Laos in comfort, I believe theLaos High-Speed Trainis an interesting new option that makes traveling from Vientiane to Luang Prabang no longer tiring or complicated.
