But the highlight of this shop is the soft Khao Piak, not mushy like our local rice porridge, with pork offal, minced pork, and pork pieces. They also add green onions and coriander for a fresh aroma that I have never tasted anywhere else.

The Khao Piak is cooked separately and kept in another pot. When ordered, it is scooped into a bowl and topped with various pork offal as requested. It is similar to rice porridge but the rice grains remain intact and not overly mushy. When eating, I add fresh bean sprouts for crunchiness and season it with condiments similar to our noodle dishes, such as fish sauce, chili powder, and vinegar, which all blend perfectly.

The price for Khao Piak here is 40 baht per bowl, or about 10,000 kip only. Besides Khao Piak, the shop also serves noodle dishes and Lao coffee. I like to order hot Lao coffee to drink alongside on mornings when the Vientiane weather gradually warms up.
