Overnight in Muang Khua, waiting until the boat is full before departing to Muang Ngoi. My trip cost 400 baht per person, which is the standard boat fare today. The boat journey takes about 5 hours. For breakfast, I only had a bowl of pho.
At Haad Sa, I had no time for lunch again, so I bought some apples and sweets to fill my stomach. Better than waiting for the boat the next day, and uncertain if there would be a boat. This trip had 7 travelers, mostly foreigners, including one from Hong Kong. This route has more tourists than the route from Haad Sama to Muang Khua. The boat from Haad Sama to Muang Khua is mainly for locals, but the route from Muang Khua to Muang Ngoi is a tourist route. Departing from Muang Khua to Muang Ngoi.
The Ou River from Muang Khua to Muang Ngoi is wider here than the northern section, and the current is not very strong. There is one rapid that is quite thrilling, enough to excite the foreigners on board. After that, the river is calm, focusing on the beautiful scenery on both sides, especially near the entrance to Muang Ngoi, where limestone mountains with unusual shapes appear, as beautiful as Phang Nga Bay in Thailand, but this is not the sea, just the fresh Ou River. Near dusk, the atmosphere is very nice, with soft sunlight making the Ou River look stunning.
The reflection of the mountains in the Ou River is the charm of this river trip. When arriving at the lower Ou River, there are no more villagers selling fish, but a few still cast nets to catch fish. I traveled near dusk, and villagers came out to bathe. Everyone in the village bathes together, not just 5 or 10 people, but 20-30 people. This is the lifestyle of the Ou River people because when the sun sets, there is no electricity.
After returning from the garden and farm in the evening, everyone hurries to bathe, eat, and sleep. Welcome to the gateway of Muang Ngoi on the Ou River side. I arrived in Muang Ngoi around 7 pm, almost 8 pm. Upon arrival, I had to find accommodation first. Knowing that the electricity in Muang Ngoi is generated by a generator and stops at 9:30 pm, the first guesthouse I asked near the Ou River became my accommodation for the night because I had no time to check elsewhere. I needed to quickly upload photos to my computer.
and charge my camera and computer batteries before the power went out. The accommodation I got tonight cost 160 baht per night. It was a simple room because the weather here is cool and there is no air conditioning. Muang Ngoi has no internet cafes; even electricity is on a schedule. Internet is not available, which is good because I don't have to work today and can sleep early. The night in Muang Ngoi is really quiet. I hurried to charge batteries and bathe before the power went out.
Then I went down to eat. Food prices at riverside restaurants in Muang Ngoi are higher than other towns, possibly because it is a tourist town for foreigners and transportation here is difficult. After eating, I prepared to sleep. The power went out just then. Today was a tiring travel day for me. Before sleeping, I kept my camera beside me, ready because tomorrow morning I would not wake up to see the view alone. I would take photos from the moment I wake up and capture Muang Ngoi in the morning for my friends to see the view with me.

Arrived in Muang Ngoi after dark, so I couldn't see the town's appearance. The accommodation I stayed at tonight had a balcony in front and cost just over 100 baht per night. The bedroom and bathroom use generator power, which stops at 9:30 pm. I had to hurry to bathe, charge my camera batteries, then find something to eat and sleep deeply tonight. Tomorrow morning, let's see Muang Ngoi together.
