Recommended Hotels in Luang Prabang Support your exciting trip by booking hotels here As promised last night before sleeping, I would wake up and film immediately so we could discover Muang Ngoi together When I woke up in the morning, it was already bright so I grabbed my trusty Canon camera, the only tool I always carry to work with, filmed a video and went out to breathe the fresh morning air of Muang Ngoi The morning scene of Muang Ngoi was more beautiful than I ever imagined, even in my dreams
Muang Ngoi is a town with the Nam Ou River flowing in front of it On the opposite side of Muang Ngoi is a complex high limestone mountain range stretching along the Nam Ou River from upstream to Muang Ngoi This limestone mountain range continues far beyond the river's view The mountain shadows reflect beautifully and uniquely on the water in the morning, a masterpiece created by nature The Nam Ou River flows past Muang Ngoi I walked to the pier and saw the daily activities of the locals starting Some went fishing by boat, others swept the streets, and prepared breakfast
Starting life in Muang Ngoi is never confusing like in Bangkok Everything still looks peaceful and beautiful In front of the pier are many steps down to the water with dozens of boats docked Both boats from Muang Khua and local boats used for livelihood and travel on the Nam Ou River Behind Muang Ngoi village, what does it look like? I walked to the back where there is a red dirt road lined with houses about 500 meters long At the end is another limestone mountain visible in the distance
If you walk a bit further behind, there are rice fields and gardens of locals and another limestone mountain This means Muang Ngoi is truly a valley town Walking behind Muang Ngoi village The limestone mountain behind Muang Ngoi village The main road behind the village runs parallel to the Nam Ou River On the morning I walked, locals were still not fully awake A noodle snack shop was open I noticed traces of several Western restaurants operating at night
Mostly Westerners eat and sip Lao beer including the restaurants Muang Ngoi, which seemed peaceful last night, was no longer quiet However, the electricity here only goes off at 10 PM :) After that, the town naturally becomes quiet After filming from the start to the end, I walked back to the pier to have a cup of Lao coffee Thinking to myself I had no money on me because I rushed out to take photos this morning without bringing my wallet
I had to owe the money first I told the coffee seller before ordering that I had no money and he said I could pay later comfortably After getting the coffee and sipping a little, I wanted to continue drinking on the balcony so I walked up to the accommodation My eyes caught locals making alms with sticky rice so I followed the monks closely The daily routine of Muang Ngoi locals is giving sticky rice alms which is common throughout Laos They only offer sticky rice The food is prepared separately for the monks when they eat
I followed to take photos and videos and even had a chance to talk with locals Watch the clip below Sticky Rice Alms Giving in Muang Ngoi Muang Ngoi locals giving alms in the morning I thought about why Muang Ngoi is famous worldwide It is because Muang Ngoi is a transit town for travel from Luang Prabang to Muang Khua or Phongsaly Whether going upstream or downstream, boats stop here as a halfway rest point with beautiful views The limestone mountain shadows on the Nam Ou River are beautiful and the weather is cool all year round
This makes it a stopover point where tourists stay at least one night Muang Ngoi is not a place to stay many days because it is small and there is not much to do But Muang Ngoi still has other attractions besides the beautiful views The next story will be “I Love Muang Kgoi” inspired by “I LOVE PAI” Stay tuned to see how Muang Ngoi will be in part two mr.hotsia recommends hotels in Luang Prabang Muang Ngoi Nam Ou River pier Boats like this are used to ferry people to Nong Khiao Muang Khua
