Visakha Bucha Candlelight Procession Backpacking in Luang Prabang Hotel Recommendations in Luang Prabang Support Exciting Travel Book Hotels Here I talked with locals in Luang Prabang about the "Alms Offering on the Stairs" activity during Songkran and found it very interesting. So I followed to join the merit-making at Phousi Stupa. Today, men, women, children, and elders in Luang Prabang all bring sticky rice and sweets and walk together up Phousi Stupa. At every step on the stairs, sticky rice and sweets are placed continuously. This is the alms offering on the stairs tradition of Luang Prabang people.

Today, Luang Prabang locals dress beautifully in traditional Luang Prabang attire with shoulder cloths and sinh skirts. Starting early morning, whoever comes at any time can join. I was deeply impressed by the scene. It was truly a wonderful experience for me. Especially when reaching the top of Phousi, they throw sticky rice and sweets up to the stupa. It is a grand act of merit and charity. At the top of Phousi Stupa, I saw many people drawing fortune sticks, reminding me of when I visited the giant wall in Kham Muang Province.

Lao girls also drew fortune sticks nearby. Drawing fortune sticks allows us to reflect on ourselves when reading the predictions. Unfortunately, it was crowded so I did not try it myself. mr.hotsia April 2011 mr.hotsia Hotel Recommendations in Luang Prabang Alms Offering on the Stairs Phousi Stupa Luang Prabang Luang Prabang girls participating in the alms offering on the stairs at Phousi Stupa
