If you do not wish to make merit, please keep a respectful distance and behave modestly. Do not block the path where monks walk or the areas where people make merit. Please do not take photos of monks from too close a distance and avoid using flash as the camera flash disturbs the monks and locals greatly. Please dress modestly and neatly. Avoid wearing low-cut shirts, sleeveless tops, and skirts or shorts that are too short above the knee.

Do not touch the monks. Large buses are prohibited from parking in the Luang Prabang World Heritage area as they often cause significant disturbance. Do not drive buses behind the monks' procession as you may be positioned higher than the monks, which is considered very disrespectful by the Lao people.
