After that, the river splits into many islands, up to 4,000 islands or Four Thousand Islands. Lao people call this area. I rented a motorcycle from Ban Don Khong, which is located on the southern side of the eastern part of Don Khong. It is the busiest area of Don Khong. There are many rental shops with prices at 60,000 kip for manual motorcycles and 80,000 kip for automatic gear (240/320 baht). These prices are for Thai and Lao renters; foreigners pay 80/100.

Renting a motorcycle here requires no documents; just pay and ride. I recommend that if you travel independently and arrive by bus like me, rent a motorcycle to tour around Don Khong, enjoy the beautiful views at Hua Khong and the market along the scenic rice fields. Also, you can only drive about ten kilometers for sightseeing, making it a very worthwhile rental. I rode a motorcycle around Don Khong, stopped to chat with Lao locals, took photos, and went towards

That spot is where the Mekong River first splits, as I mentioned. At Hua Khong, there is a ferry crossing to Champasak for both people and vehicles. From Hua Khong, heading west of Don Khong, this is the ferry point crossing to a small island at the border next to Cambodia. Cambodia here is not far from the Thai border near Khao Phra Wihan. The Lao people around here tend to have darker skin. Or maybe that's just my imagination, hehe.

From Muang Saen, driving south around, you will reach the Bak pier or the ferry crossing to Pakse, which I took on the way here. This completes a full circle tour of Don Khong. The charm of independent travel like ours is that you can stop anywhere, do anything, and stay as many nights as you want. The same applies to motorcycle touring; no need to rush. Enjoy the views and greet the lovely Lao people along the way. Mr.Hotsia recommends hotels at Don Khong near here. Rent a motorcycle to tour Don Khong.
