Travel Pak Song Pakse City Champasak Province http://www.hotsia.com > Travel Pakse Champasak > Travel Pak Song Pakse City Champasak Province Explore Pak Song, the coffee capital of Laos. Travel from Pakse to Pak Song. Discover the mysterious 'Eight Elbows' people, try the Laotian grilled pork at Jin Dad restaurant, and stay at Simali Guesthouse in Pak Song. Visit Ban Nong Luang. Pak Song is known as the coffee capital of Laos, located 50 kilometers from Pakse (Travel from Pakse to Pak Song).

Pak Song is located at a high elevation. When traveling from Pakse, you gradually drive uphill without realizing it. In fact, Pak Song's altitude is comparable to Phu Kradueng, resulting in cool weather. Accommodation in Pak Song usually does not require air conditioning, just hot water is enough. Pak Song is an important tourist city in southern Laos, with many waterfalls. It is also a major coffee growing area exporting abroad, earning the title of Laos' coffee capital. Let's first explore the waterfalls in Pak Song.
The waterfalls well-known and visited by Thai tourists include Tad Fane Waterfall and Pha Suam Waterfall. Information about these is widely available online. I will add tips for visiting these waterfalls independently. It's easy: arrive in Pak Song, rent a motorbike there or in Pakse (though Pakse is farther), as these waterfalls are near Pak Song. Renting a motorbike to visit waterfalls and nearby villages around Pak Song makes for a very enjoyable trip.
There is another waterfall with very little information called 'Sekatam Waterfall.' I have written about it; it is a bit difficult to reach but is the tallest and most beautiful waterfall in Laos. Besides Pak Song waterfalls (locally called Pak Chong, as I confirmed with locals), the city grows a lot of coffee. Coffee beans dry along the roads, and the scent of coffee fills the city upon entering Pak Song. In Pak Song, there is a coffee shop that roasts, grinds, and brews fresh coffee using a special espresso machine. The shop is called 'Pak Song Coffee.'
Click through to read more about the coffee capital Pak Song's scenic views and numerous coffee plantations along the roads. Pak Song is also a popular retreat for Lao people escaping the heat in southern Laos. There are many accommodations in Pak Song, so booking in advance is not necessary. When I wrote this, I stayed at Simali Guesthouse or Simali Hotel, costing 320 baht per night with very clean rooms (I even bargained in Vietnamese, haha).
Pak Song has many restaurants along the main road, including a grilled pork restaurant called Jin Dad by locals. Food in Pak Song is cheaper than in Pakse because it is less frequented by Thai tourists. There are pho restaurants, Lao papaya salad shops next to Pak Song Coffee, and affordable a la carte eateries. The cost of living in Pak Song is lower than in Pakse. Mr.hotsia recommends visiting the ancient 'Eight Elbows' people at Ban Thong Wai, a newly discovered site even unknown to locals.
You can ride a motorbike yourself. Follow the information I provided, including GPS. Pak Song has banks but no ATMs, so withdraw money from Pakse before coming. Some coffee shops in Pak Song offer free Wi-Fi. I recommend renting one motorbike to tour all the waterfalls in one day, or stay two nights if you want a deeper experience, including Sekatam Waterfall as I did.
Pak Song is a pleasant destination with good weather. Unlike other towns, Pak Song has no morning market, similar to Champasak. I stayed two nights in Pak Song and planned to continue to Se Kong.
