But remember firmly to call it in Thai style as "Sekatam Waterfall." According to Lao documents, this waterfall is in Sekong Province, but Pakxong people say it is in Champasak Province near the Sekong border. It is clearly in Champasak Province. I listed it in both provinces so travelers can find it easily. Sekatam Waterfall is the highest waterfall in Laos, reported to be 120 meters tall. You might think of the Thi Lo Su Waterfall and wonder about its height. Thi Lo Su Waterfall is 300 meters tall.
Sekatam Waterfall is 120 meters high, less than half the height of Thi Lo Su Waterfall in our country, but it is still the tallest in Laos. The difference between Thi Lo Su and Sekatam is that Thi Lo Su is a limestone waterfall, while Sekatam is not limestone as I observed. Both waterfalls are rivers falling from cliffs. Thi Lo Su is the Mae Klong River, while Sekatam Waterfall is the Sekatam River. That's why it's called Sekatam Waterfall, meaning the Sekatam River falling from a high cliff. Sekatam Waterfall is very beautiful.
With water falling into the valley, mist fills the area below, creating pink stone flowers on the rocks everywhere. This is something I have never seen before. The translation is new and very beautiful. Besides the stone flowers, there are moss plants growing abundantly. It looks like traveling in a heavenly city. Experiencing this like I did was not easy in the past, but nowadays it is not too difficult. In the past, when Joe Bangjak went in 2006, it was legendary because it was very hard to reach.

Or easier, come to Pakxong and ask for directions; everyone knows the way, it's not difficult. But wait, it's not that easy because to see Sekatam Waterfall beautifully, you must climb down the mountain to the bottom, not stay on top. It takes about 40 minutes to one hour at a fast pace. The path is forested and mountainous.
And the path is steep down to the waterfall, slippery due to the mist from Sekatam Waterfall. But once you reach the bottom, it is totally worth the decision to walk down. I rank Sekatam Waterfall as my number one in the heavenly city of stone flowers. It is incredibly beautiful. I don't know if any other waterfall in the world has this.
