Also, the shrimp fried rice smelled of the wok and fresh shrimp, making my meal truly fulfilling.

Although the restaurant had quite a few flies, they carefully lit candles to keep them away. I think this is part of the charm of Mawlamyine eateries that still preserve their traditional atmosphere well. I bought local fried chicken for 120 baht and shrimp fried rice for 100 baht, which was very worth it considering the deliciousness and ambiance.

I once tried half a roasted duck for 150 baht at Paking Restaurant, not far from my accommodation. Most of my lunches were Chinese or Burmese dishes from these places.

Mawlamyine also has riverside restaurants extending over the Salween River with a nice atmosphere, suitable for those wanting to try local food in a relaxing setting, though prices are quite high. During my visit to Mawlamyine, I often woke up early to sip coffee on the balcony of The Breeze Guesthouse, looking out at the gently flowing Salween River along with locals starting their day selling breakfast like bread, boiled eggs, and hot coffee.
