Kengtung Noodle Cute Girl: A Delicious Charm You Must Try in Shan State
I, mr.hotsia, had the opportunity to travel toKengtunga small town in Shan State, Myanmar, filled with Tai Yai culture and the simple beauty of nature. But one thing that impressed me as much as the scenery was “Kengtung Noodle,” or as locals call it, Kengtung Noodle Cute Girl.
Kengtung Noodle in Kengtung is not just an ordinary fast food dish. It is a perfect blend of flavors and culture. I followed the enticing aroma in Kengtung’s morning market and found a small noodle shop by the roadside where a cute young Kengtung girl skillfully hand-mixed the noodles.
The Special Kengtung Noodles You Can’t Easily Find Elsewhere
The Kengtung noodles here are unlike regular noodles. The noodles are made from rice that is hand-mixed until chewy and soft but still fresh, unlike dried noodles or egg noodles in Bangkok. This hand-mixing of fresh noodles makes them chewy and absorb the broth very well. The broth is a pork bone soup simmered until sweet and mellow, neither too salty nor too sweet. Importantly, local Shan spices are added to enhance the flavor, which I believe is the secret that makes this dish uniquely outstanding.
When I order Kengtung noodles, I like to watch the Kengtung girls carefully mixing the noodles. They are experts at handling the noodles and seasoning perfectly. The hot noodle broth is served with tender pork slices and fresh vegetables. What I especially like is adding chili powder and fresh lime juice, which adds just the right spicy and sour kick. The first taste felt like discovering a delicacy I had never tried before in Myanmar or anywhere else.
Lifestyle and Atmosphere Around Kengtung Noodles in Kengtung
Kengtung noodle shops are not just eateries but gathering places for locals and travelers like me to exchange stories. Sometimes, the Kengtung girls selling noodles speak softly, sharing information about the town and the Tai Yai way of life. Traveling to Kengtung is not difficult for those withpassports and visasbut for those without, I have written in an article about ways to obtain documents through Myanmar immigration to travel for 7 days in the Tachileik and Kengtung areas as well.
Kengtung is a town that still preserves the simplicity of rural life well. I strolled through the fresh market and found most food was fresh from farms and fields in Shan State. Some Kengtung girls selling noodles had just returned from the rice fields or vegetable gardens that morning. This made me feel the deep connection between food and lifestyle.
Connecting Experiences with Travel in Shan State
Did you know that eating Kengtung noodles in Kengtung is like experiencing the real life of the Tai Yai people living inShan Statewhich is not far from Haka, where I experienced the cold atmosphere and the life of the Chin people in northern Myanmar.HakaHaka has the beauty of high mountains and a different atmosphere, but the people there and the Tai Yai in Kengtung share a deep cultural and historical connection.
After enjoying the Kengtung noodles, I also explored the market in Kengtung, which had fresh vegetables, fruits, and local spices used in cooking here. I recommend everyone interested in traveling to Kengtung to truly experience this because it’s not just about food but learning and experiencing the true way of life of the people in Shan State.
