Chiang Khan: Visiting Chanakham Town on the Laos Side Opposite Chiang Khan
Visiting Chanakham Town on the Laos Side Opposite Chiang Khan http://www.hotsia.com > Chiang Khan > Visiting Chanakham Town on the Laos Side Opposite Chiang Khan During my trip to Chiang Khan, I stood by the Mekong River and looked across to the Laos side, wondering what it was like over there. Is it similar to Chiang Khan? I think many people are curious too. Mr.Hotsia, who loves to travel thoroughly, wouldn't let this curiosity remain. So I crossed over and stayed one night. I have photos and clips to share with you.

The town opposite Chiang Khan, separated by the Mekong River, is called Chanakham. It belongs to the Vientiane Province. This town was originally the old home of the Chiang Khan people before they moved to the Thai side and eventually established Chiang Khan. Chanakham looks peaceful with few people around and has some ancient temples. There are four or five accommodations available, priced between 300-600 baht per night. There are also made-to-order food restaurants. It's easy to visit. Chanakham's tourist attraction includes a sandy beach near Pha Chanadai.
Watch the sunset on the Laos side with Chiang Khan town in front of you, or in other words, see the sun setting right behind Chiang Khan. I think this place has a beautiful sunset and is worth visiting. To get there, you can hire a tuk-tuk within the town for a round trip. The price is negotiable. The distance from the market to the sightseeing spot is about 5-8 km. For crossing to Chanakham town, since this checkpoint is temporary, no passport is required.
You need to get a temporary pass card at Chiang Khan district office, requiring two 1.5-inch photos and your ID card. The district office does not provide photo services, so prepare your photos in advance or quickly get them taken in the Chiang Khan market. Using this temporary pass card, you can stay overnight in Chanakham town, Laos. This is an alternative option if accommodations in Chiang Khan are full.
