Samut Prakan Travel - Lotus Throwing Festival

http://www.hotsia.com > Samut Prakan Travel > Lotus Throwing Festival Information about Samut Prakan travel by Mr.Hotsia Lotus Throwing Festival - Receiving lotus at Bang Phli, Hia Dam Bang Bo Noodles, Fool-catching and An Nae competitions Mr.Hotsia recommends good and affordable hotels with discounts in Samut Prakan I live in Bang Bo, not far from Wat Luang Pho To Bang Phli Yai where the Lotus Throwing Festival is held every year, but I have never visited until this year when I finally got the chance.

The Lotus Throwing Festival is an event where locals throw lotus flowers onto boats carrying a replica of Luang Pho To, who arrives by boat. Participants hold the lotus seed pod while making a wish, then throw the lotus to land in front of Luang Pho successfully. Lotus flowers are sold by vendors along the canal. I guess in the past, people brought their own lotus flowers since Bang Phli Yai has plenty of lotus. According to legend, Luang Pho To arrived at the lotus pond. Nowadays, lotus flowers are harder to find, so locals and tourists buy them to throw.

Luang Pho To is a sibling of Luang Pho Sothon and Luang Pho Wat Ban Laem. They floated together but landed at different places. Luang Pho To landed at the lotus pond at Wat Bang Phli Yai today. This is why there is a remembrance event for Luang Pho To during the lotus receiving ceremony, which continues to this day. The Lotus Throwing Festival is held annually during the end of Buddhist Lent. Join us to explore the Bang Phli Yai Lotus Throwing Festival. Here is a clip of the atmosphere before the festival, tasting sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves at the lotus receiving event, lotus throwing, student performances, all held in front of the district office.
