Phrao District Morning: The Charm of Northern Lifestyle You Must Experience
Hello, I am mr.hotsia, and I will take everyone to wake up early in Phrao District, Chiang Mai Province, a small town that truly hides the beauty of nature and northern way of life. If you think you will only see ordinary morning mist, take a look at Phrao from my perspective and you will realize there is so much more to discover in “Phrao’s morning.”
From the first step off the car, I felt the cool and comfortable air, even though it was not yet winter. The scent of earth and dew-moistened leaves in the morning mixed with birdsong created an atmosphere that immediately relaxed me. Phrao is not as bustling as Chiang Mai city, but it has its own lively spirit through the people starting to sell goods in the small morning market here.
Phrao Morning Market: Simple Charm That Captivates
Phrao morning market is not very big but full of local specialties. Starting with fresh, chemical-free vegetables sold by villagers, many native vegetables rarely seen in big cities, as well as seasonal fruits that are delicious and fresh. Passing by stalls selling traditional breakfast dishes such as authentic northern chicken khao soi, fragrant with curry spices and rich broth, or try the equally delicious khao jeen nam ngiao.
I, mr.hotsia, recommend stopping by a small roadside shop for homemade blended soy milk with honey. The gentle sweetness and aroma of honey from nearby mountains make this Phrao morning even more refreshing.
Phrao Villagers’ Lifestyle: Peacefulness with Warmth
Besides the morning market, I had the chance to stroll around the village and listen to stories from the locals. Many still practice traditional agriculture using manual labor and natural tools to grow rice and kitchen vegetables, showing deep love and connection to the land.
While walking through fruit orchards and cornfields of the villagers, I recalled an articleDoi Tao Lake Remainsthat I once wrote, which is not far from Phrao. Both places are connected by agricultural lifestyles and well-preserved nature.
Nearby Attractions: Complete Northern Route Connections
If you visit Phrao and want to extend your trip to other places, I, mr.hotsia, recommend interesting routes such as visitingSan Thong Amkoi Templewhich holds historical and spiritual significance for northern people, or driving further to Mae Chaem where there is a cozy coffee shop calledJang Muang Cafewhere I often stop by when visiting this part of Chiang Mai.
For nature lovers wanting to experience mountain forest atmosphere, I suggest stopping at Ob Luang, not far from Phrao. There you will find a beautiful suspension bridge and rock cliffs. You can read about my experience traveling to Ob Luang in the articleTraveling Ob Luang: Walking Across the Ob Luang Bridgethat I wrote.
Travel and Accommodation: Comfortable and Relaxed
Phrao is about 90 kilometers from Chiang Mai city. Travel is convenient by private car or public bus running on main routes. Early morning, I, mr.hotsia, traveled from Chiang Mai to Phrao in about an hour and a half.
Accommodation in Phrao ranges from cozy small homestays to budget guesthouses, suitable for travelers wanting to truly experience local lifestyle. I personally enjoy staying at homestays because I get to talk with the hosts and taste freshly made local dishes every day.
Summary of Impressions: Phrao, A Small Town with a Big Heart
Though a small town not often talked about, Phrao is a hidden place of peace and northern beauty that I, mr.hotsia, want everyone to experience firsthand. The simplicity of the morning market, villagers’ lifestyle preserving traditional customs, and abundant nature give Phrao a charm different from other places in Chiang Mai.
