Ban Mae Klang Luang: A small paradise on Doi Inthanon that mr.hotsia must share
When talking about Doi Inthanon, many people think of Thailand's highest peak with cool weather all year round and breathtaking nature. But what mr.hotsia wants to introduce more deeply is “Ban Mae Klang Luang,” a hill tribe village located on the way up Doi Inthanon, just about 20-30 minutes from the summit.
Ban Mae Klang Luang is located not far from the Doi Inthanon National Park headquarters. Generally, tourists have three main accommodation options: staying at the park's lodging just 5 minutes from the headquarters, staying at Doi Chua Nya in the hill tribe village on the same road as the park lodging, and my favorite option, staying at Ban Mae Klang Luang itself.
What impressed me most about Ban Mae Klang Luang is the atmosphere of a traditional hill tribe village that still maintains a simple way of life. There are several resorts and homestays run by locals serving tourists. Accommodation prices during the winter season (December-January) start at around 1,000 baht per night, but if you visit outside the winter season, prices are only about 500 baht, which is a great value for the beautiful views and cool weather here.
Ban Mae Klang Luang also offers tent rentals, which I think is a great option for those who love being fully immersed in nature. Most resorts have barbecue spots and convenient bathrooms ready for guests. I have camped here myself and felt truly connected with nature.
Terraced Rice Field Views and Fresh Coffee from Locals
Many may have seen the beautiful terraced rice fields of Northern Thailand, but Ban Mae Klang Luang has uniquely stunning terraced fields as well. Especially during the golden rice harvest or when locals are planting new rice. I recommend taking a walk and photographing in the early morning or evening, then enjoying freshly roasted and ground coffee made by the locals cup by cup. The coffee here is delicious, and you can chat about the villagers' lives and livelihoods. This is a wonderful experience that mr.hotsia really enjoys.
In the evening, walking around the terraced rice fields offers a beautiful sunset view. The atmosphere is peaceful with just the right coolness, perfect for true relaxation. Some accommodations are even located next to small waterfalls, allowing you to listen to the soothing sound of flowing water for full relaxation.
Relaxation Experiences and Activities that mr.hotsia Loves
I have visited Ban Mae Klang Luang twice. The first time was to scout a location for a reunion party for my 27th military craftsman class. The second time was for a year-end reunion party in 2013. In November, the weather is pleasantly cool, and tourists are not too crowded, making sightseeing and relaxing very private.
My favorite accommodation is “Baan Ploy Praew,” located at the second house by the village stream. It is comfortable and offers beautiful natural views. I once organized a family group event here for about 50 families by booking in advance via phone at 087-1019576 or 081-2971473.
At Ban Mae Klang Luang, besides enjoying natural views and terraced rice fields, you also get to learn about the hill tribe lifestyle and taste fresh coffee made by the locals. I think this charm cannot be found at other accommodations on Doi Inthanon.
Connecting Travel and Nearby Attractions
For traveling up Doi Inthanon, Ban Mae Klang Luang is a very suitable resting point because it is close to the summit and still preserves the authentic hill tribe community atmosphere. Also, if you have free time, don't forget to visitDoi Tao Lake Ruinswhich is also in Chiang Mai province, and there are interesting attractions such asOb Luangor pay respects atWat Saen Thong Omkoiwhich has history and beauty just as impressive.
If you stop by Chiang Mai city, don't forget to try the delicious food and coffee that mr.hotsia has recommended, including Korean BBQ buffet or Khao Soi at Jaeng Muang in Mae Chaem, which will energize your journey well.
Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia
Ban Mae Klang Luang is a small accommodation and community on Doi Inthanon that I want everyone to experience. It suits those who love nature, hill tribe lifestyles, and tranquility. It doesn't focus on luxury but on sincerity and an atmosphere hard to find in big cities. The weather is cool all year round, so you don't have to come only in winter to enjoy it.
For those planning a trip to Doi Inthanon, I recommend staying at Ban Mae Klang Luang, then waking up early to visit the summit, and in the afternoon, stroll around to see the views and terraced rice fields while sipping fresh coffee made by the locals. I guarantee you will have a unique and deeper Northern travel experience than anyone else.
See you at Doi Inthanon.
With best wishes from mr.hotsia
