The Largest Bear in the World in Khon Kaen: Meet at Chalerm Phrakiat Park

Speaking of my memorable travels, I, mr.hotsia, visited Khon Kaen, a province full of stories and attractions that few talk about. One of the places I intended to visit and must share is “The Largest Bear in the World,” a 15-meter tall buffalo bear statue standing proudly atChalerm Phrakiat ParkVillage No. 7, Tha Phra Subdistrict, which is not far from Khon Kaen city center

From my own travel experience, getting to this park is not difficult. Drive out of Khon Kaen city heading along Mittraphap Road towards Nakhon Ratchasima for about 17 kilometers, then turn left and go another 1 kilometer. You will find the giant smiling bear welcoming you by the roadside. Anyone passing by will definitely stop to take photos with this magnificent bear.

The Legend of the Buffalo Bear and Nong Bua Dee Mee

The story I heard from locals tells of a hunter who once shot a large buffalo bear that fell into this pond. Afterward, the bear’s flesh dissolved in the water, giving the pond special properties. Locals who drank or bathed in the water from Nong Bua Dee Mee often recovered from illnesses, turning this into a widely known local legend.

To match the name of this pond and to attract tourists, Chalerm Phrakiat Park built the largest buffalo bear statue in the world. Besides being an interesting landmark, it reflects the beliefs and culture of the local people very well.

mr.hotsia’s Experience with the Giant Bear and Park Atmosphere

I arrived there in the late morning on a weekday. The atmosphere was quite peaceful, perfect for strolling and taking photos with the giant bear. I like that the park has a spacious area with shady trees, ideal for families wanting to relax. For photography lovers, this buffalo bear is a must-visit photo spot.

Additionally, I spoke with locals who said that since the statue was built, more tourists have started visiting, especially teenagers and families eager to see the grandeur of this unique buffalo bear.

Khon Kaen: A City of Travel and Diverse Activities

For those visiting Khon Kaen and wanting to try other activities, I, mr.hotsia, recommend experiencing tennis at the courts near Khon Kaen Walking Street. There are six courts available, and the fee for outsiders is only 50 baht. I have brought my tennis racket here before; it’s fun and a good workout. Afterwards, you can walk to the lively and colorful Khon Kaen Walking Street.Playing Tennis in Khon Kaen: Tennis Courts in Khon Kaen ProvinceThis activity perfectly complemented my trip.

If you are interested in nature and beautiful views, I have also written aboutUbolrat Dam, Khon KaenThis place is about an hour and a half from the city center and is ideal for relaxing, picnicking, or photographing the stunning scenery of the vast lake stretching 30 kilometers long.

Savoring Local Khon Kaen Cuisine

Before ending the trip at the giant bear, I, mr.hotsia, recommend trying Khon Kaen-style breakfast at the Jok Jab Sen shop near the morning market in Khon Kaen city. This shop is very popular with locals and tourists because it is affordable, delicious, and perfect for starting the day. The rice porridge with egg here looks very appetizing, and the Jab and Sen dishes are unique compared to other places.Jok Jab Sen: Khon Kaen’s BreakfastThis is the flavor I want to recommend everyone to try.
