Full Feast of Trat Seafood by mr.hotsia
Trat Province is well known as the gateway to the popular Koh Chang island. But if you think visiting only Koh Chang completes your Trat experience like mr.hotsia, I must say you’re seriously missing out! This time, I’m determined to take you on a full seafood feast in Trat with fresh and reasonably priced seafood because Trat is not only famous for its scenery and beautiful islands but also a city abundant with fresh seafood that is easy to find and very affordable compared to many other coastal provinces.
First, I have to say that this trip started with exploring Trat town itself, then continued with a seafood tasting adventure at the local fresh market. If you want to get to know Trat more deeply, not just its beautiful islands, I recommend readingTrat Travel Informationfirst, as it will help you understand the overall picture of this province better, including its culture, lifestyle, and other interesting tourist spots.
Trat Seafood Market: The Starting Point of Deliciousness
If you want to eat fresh seafood at cheap prices without much thought, the fresh market in Trat town is the place I recommend everyone to experience firsthand. Here you’ll find shrimp, shellfish, crab, fish, and squid caught almost immediately from the sea. The atmosphere is lively like a true community market. The sellers are friendly and help recommend must-try dishes. Most importantly, the prices are very good, especially during festivals or when fish catches are abundant. You’ll see kilos of shrimp, large shellfish, and meaty sea crabs to choose from, either to take home or have the nearby restaurants cook fresh for you.
On my last visit, I ordered a heavy lineup of signature dishes including boiled shrimp, fresh oysters, grilled squid, and steamed blue crab. Every dish came with homemade dipping sauces, whether it was the spicy seafood sauce or the secret sauce used by local restaurants. These really enhanced the flavor of Trat’s seafood. If you want to watch the atmosphere and enjoy a full seafood feast like me, you can watch the full video of the Trat seafood feast atthis linkhere.
Besides seafood at the market, what else is there to explore in Trat?
After enjoying fresh seafood, if you have time, I recommend walking around Trat town. Here you can experience the local lifestyle, visit community markets with a variety of food and goods, and see beautiful natural spots such as the still abundant mangrove forests. If you want to continue exploring the sea, Trat province has 52 beautiful islands to choose from.
The story of the indigenous Chong people is another dimension I enjoy studying because they are the original tribe who have lived in this area for a long time. Learning about the Chong culture and lifestyle adds a deeper understanding of Trat province. Travel Tips and Seafood Tasting Like mr.hotsia
For those who want to travel to Trat like me, I recommend planning several days. Spending time tasting seafood at different restaurants will let you feel the differences and variety of ingredients and flavors better. Another thing I like is visiting the market in the morning to see fresh seafood just brought in and the atmosphere of locals buying ingredients for cooking.
If you plan to stay on Koh Chang, I recommend booking accommodation in advance during festivals or long holidays because tourists are very many. But if you want a peaceful atmosphere and affordable prices, staying in Trat town is a good option and you can easily travel to eat fresh seafood.
Stop by Klong Yai Border Market Before Crossing to Koh Kong
Another spot I often stop by is the Klong Yai border checkpoint. Besides being a crossing point to Cambodia, there is a small border market selling a variety of items including clothes and local products. If you want to continue traveling to Koh Kong, Cambodia, you can conveniently plan your trip. I have written about my experience at the Klong Yai border checkpoint inthis articlewhich helps understand travel and border crossing procedures better.
