MSN Logo Idea? On the roadside of Si Chiang Mai District, Nong Khai Province
Hello, I am mr.hotsia. I have another travel story from Nong Khai to share with you. This time, I want to show you an interesting sight along the main road before reaching Nong Khai city, especially around Si Chiang Mai District. This is a route I often drive through and was captivated by some unique and impressive art pieces — sculptures of animals skillfully shaped and trimmed from trees.
One of the sculptures made me stop my car and stare for a while. It reminded me of the MSN logo. This shape looks like several people riding on some kind of animal. If I were to guess, it resembles the logo of a famous social network we used to see in the past. I wondered if the artist who shaped these trees intended this or if it’s just an imaginative sculpture of many people riding a mythical creature. If Microsoft ever visited here and got inspired, that would be really cool, haha.
Anyone who has driven through Si Chiang Mai District might recall the green and natural roadside atmosphere combined with this unique art. It’s a small charm I’d like you to notice and stop to admire.
Nong Khai, a border town full of stories and colors
For those who have never visited Nong Khai, I recommend planning a free-style trip here. This place is not just famous for the Naga Fireballs as commonly known, but also offers many interesting attractions and cultures such asSala Kaew Kualso known as Wat Khaek, an artistic and religious site built by Grandfather Boonlue, a Lao who crossed the Mekong River to live on the Thai side. This place is distinctive and filled with profound Buddhist teachings worth studying.
Moreover, if you have a private car or rent a tuk-tuk around town, you can follow a route from Wat Pho Chai (home to the revered Luang Pho Phra Sai) to Sala Kaew Ku, the stupa in the middle of the water, and finally toTha Sadet Pier Marketperfectly. This route lets you experience the lifestyle of Nong Khai locals and the beautiful Mekong River scenery.
Si Chiang Mai District and art from nature
Returning to Si Chiang Mai District, the tree-animal sculptures I mentioned are another charm showing the creativity and deep connection locals have with nature. These shaped trees are not just decorations but add color and interest to the travel route between Si Chiang Mai and Nong Khai city.
Seeing these works reminded me of other travel spots in Nong Khai such asSangkhom Districtwhich lies beyond Si Chiang Mai. It’s a Mekong River viewpoint with beautiful, peaceful sand dunes, less crowded than the city. It’s one of my favorite places for riverside walks and truly experiencing nature.
Riverside lifestyle and delicious food in Nong Khai
Besides natural beauty and art, Nong Khai is also famous for its delicious food, especiallyDaeng Nam Neung (Red Nam Neung)a well-known restaurant among locals and tourists. I once experienced the riverside atmosphere there and saw their careful vegetable washing process. Customers can be confident in the cleanliness and freshness of the food.
Here, the focus is on fresh vegetables and fragrant grilled pork. The taste is so good that many people recommend it. If you don’t have time to dine in, you can easily order takeout. This place suits both those wanting to try local flavors and tourists seeking convenience.
mr.hotsia’s impressions of the Nong Khai trip
Throughout my trip in Nong Khai, I felt the diversity of culture, lifestyle, and nature blending harmoniously. You will find peacefulness by the Mekong River, unique art in Si Chiang Mai, delicious local food at Daeng Nam Neung, and the warm hospitality of locals always ready to welcome visitors.
For those wanting to try new experiences, I recommend driving out of the city through Si Chiang Mai to see these tree sculptures, then visitSala Kaew Ku, Wat Khaekand finish with tasting local food at Daeng Nam Neung. I guarantee you will experience a different and memorable side of Nong Khai.
